Just finished installing a four speed into my 1968 GTX. One issue I see it the pedal does not return very fast. Is there an adjustment or extra spring I should use to make it snap back better? I double checked the linkage and it is not binding anywhere. Is there a spring on the upper part of the Z bar, part that attaches the pedal rod area?

Any thoughts - ideas pictures

I had the same problem. Make sure installation & Clutch adjustment is correct.some set ups require the removal of oc spring at the pedal...

Pops - thanks, as for the oc spring, would that be the big spring from the bracket to the pedal? What did you do to increase the pop back?

Clutch return

Check to make sure the large spring connecting to the pedal is in the right position. It might be binding against the support. After installing mine back in the car the large spring moved off the position were it secures to the fire wall. This cause the spring to be off centered caused it to jam against support. I used a rubber mallot and tapped it back into place. Once it returned to the right location the pedal popped back to the correct position.

Thanks, I will look at that. I have the same lower instructions pops provided, but not the upper ones. On the upper ones, there seems to be a spring from the upper part of the z bar, but no connection point. Does anyone have a spring in that area?

CordellJ,
You where right on, my large spring moved, I snapped back into place and viola - works like a champ!

The over center spring will not help with pedal return. It's actually quite the opposite - that is until the pedal is near the top. What it does is help relieve some of the effort required to depress the clutch pedal - kind of like the garage door spring helping to open the door. Check for linkage components binding (as suggested) by removing the adjuster and manually working the pedal. If you feel resistance disconnect one part at the time until you find the issue. If you have the spring installed be careful as the disconnected pedal can inflict severe damage to body parts if caught under it.
