FRAME DOLLY

So i'm looking at getting my vehicle off of jack stands and putting it on a frame type dolly, just would be nice to move the shell and frame around the garage until i'm ready to get suspension and rear end on, any recommendations guys, don't want to break the bank and this will be a 1 time application i think, appreciate any feedback gearheads OH, i'm looking for some type jig for getting my doors off by myself also, whatever you can help me with, thanks moparheads

I just welded up some tubing and plate steel and casters and bolted them to the front bumper mounting holes and for the rear I bolted them to the front spring hanger.

Made some out of 2x3 . It just so happens that the bumper bolt spacing on a 72 Duster is the same front and rear.

Here is one I made. 2 6x6 with 4 swivel casters. 2 pieces of pipe with 1/2 threaded rod welded on to tie the 6x6 beams together. On the top of the beams there are 4 2 inch long locating pins that went into the unibody frame. Worked nice and took a couple hours to make.

I found some car dollies for cheap and stacked some wood blocks on top of them. Not the best, but it works.

I built this dolly out of a pair of wheelbarrow tires and a $30 trailer jack. Works real slick. Kind of looks like an airplane's front landing gear.

I made mine with scrap metal from some old racks I got at the scrapper for nothing and 4 Harbor Freight casters. I made mine easy to remove by using C-clamps to hold on (gain ala Harbor Frright).

I think there would be the potential for the car to slide off. As the dollies are made for a tire to rest in, you'd have to set it up: dollie, wood block, jack-stand, wood block (unless you want to rest your car directly on the jack-stand). A WORD OF CAUTION!!! When I dropped the front suspension the rear suspension was still in place. The car teetered back and was resting on only the rear blocks! Everything is fine but there is the potential for disaster if you do what I did. Be carefull...

Look back at what I posted. The one I made had 4 two inch long locating pins going into the unitized frame holes. No way it will slip off. We trailered it and unloaded it with the dolly.

Yeah I was thinking about using a piece of cow mat like material (thick rubber mat) on the car dollies with the jack stand sinking/cutting into them.

I use the jack stands with car dollies and they are not welded.

I can move the body around my garage no problem.

I put two rear stands and dollies under the Dana axles. The front I use two of the same on the body frames near the torsion bar connectors... all not welded...

my cement floor is very smooth too.

i use two cart lifts to raise and lower the body... for different heights.

They work well for me....

everything in my shop is on wheels of some sort..... going on 40 years experience, and somewhat cocky; I was recently humbled.

I had a car on jackstands with dollies underneath, it worked great until it didn't; one of the "rigs" folded under and I dropped the car. it landed on a front rotor, and the opposite quarter was like "way up in the air".......I was so freaked out, I couldn't bring myself to take a picture.

fortunately, no damage was done; and I had the car back up and secure in minimal time........after that, I wish I had snapped a pic

That would make me nervous also, just looking for something more secure, I've witnessed to many dropped vehicles
