Fred once again performed the menial task of fetching parts for one of our "modern" Dodges today.
It occurred to me that this hasn't been the first time for such duty for him either.
Often is the time he's been called upon to fetch needed parts for either the '04 Ram (things like
a radiator, a couple sensors, etc.) or the '12 Charger R/T (again, stuff for the radiator, sensors, etc.).
Today, it was a dang ABS speed sensor for the LR on the Charger - the thing let go with all manner
of warning lights on the dash yesterday, a sort of mini "midnight over Tokyo" display that irked me
no end, since I actually had use of the car on a rare weekday (it's HERS, you know).
Traction control, ABS, speed control, all sorts of stuff lit up...didn't affect the way the car ran (which
as usual was like a scalded dog; it's always been a "ringer" in that regard) but nonetheless, under
the damn car I went when I got home.
The routing of the wiring for that sensor is INSANE, by the way....all the way across the back of the
car, in that tight space between gas tank and rear crossmember - terminating at a plug right next
to the right side sensors' wiring; then both pass up through the trunk floor.
That was idiotic enough - but THERE'S EXHAUST PIPES THERE, too.
Gee, guess why these things fail?....
Anyways, the irony of Fred being the only go-fer available for me to fetch parts with once again
was not lost on me today.
Imagine, a car dragged out of a field 14 years ago after being abandoned - and "redneck restored"
by yours truly in the years since - being the DEPENDABLE WORKHORSE of the fleet.
Ironic as hell if you ask me.
