If you listen to "Fantasy Life" very closely, you will discover that 80% of those licks are actually keyboards!!

Anyone remember his other hit- "Monkey on Your Back"?

Looking back on the 80's with a "twice as much experienced" ear (or is that listening back on the 80's) It's amazing how many hit songs were basically done with a guitar and a drum machine (and a lot of production work), most notably- those ZZ Top hits, but many, MANY others..

I've owned 2 Roland TR-505 "cheap" drum machines, and they have a very distinctive sound, if you are familliar with them.
I bought the first one, yes, in the 80's, but I never noticed the sound qualities until well into the 90's. Now I hear that tone in all sorts of 80s and 90s songs, and I understand they were quite popular with "the pros".
