I have a 70 challenger and I just bought a flip top fuel cap (I think it looks awesome with it.) It originally had just the twist on cap, which i still have by the way. What Goes under the flip top to seal the gas from getting out?
Right now I have a rag shoved in there temporarily. haha

Can someone post a picture? I've been looking all over for some sort of rubber seal but can't find one anywhere.

Thanks for the help!

Been so long now that I don't remember but get that rag out of there unless you like lint and fibers clogging up your fuel system because that rag will sure do it.

its a shop rag. and its not actually in the hole its just under the cap while it sits in my garage. no biggie

That's not so bad.....but I've seen so many driving down the road with a rag sticking out and that's not good. Sorry I can't answer your question but maybe someone will if we keep it bumped up? lol

That's a good question! Wonder if it used the same filler neck with the twist in cap as it did with the flip?

Yeah here in Texas I always see the Mexicans driving around with the rag hanging out. I always laughed but Its me doing it now. lol
Anyways I found one off of year one for 12 bucks. Not bad at all. Its a smaller screw on cap that fits under it. I talked to someone from dales cuda shop and she told me it originally had some sort of rubber piece that sealed it... Hopefully the piece I bought will fit no problem

A body Cudas and B Body Flip Top caps had the filler seal on the underside of the cap.
My understanding is that the Challenger had a seperate cap to seal the filler neck.

Yeah? That makes sense.
i don't know, i was never around when these cars ruled streets... it makes it hard sometimes because It seems like everyone gives different information. I never really know what it was like. I just start taking stuff apart and figure it out on my own. Its more fun that way anyways

70 Challenger RT/SE that I used to have had a twist on gas cap under the flip top cap. Got to know that part of the car really well after some POS stole the flip top cap. At least my insurance covered it and I ended up with a shiny new one.
