I'm looking to install a 18-22 gallon fuel cell in my 70 Roadrunner project. They're pretty spendy so I want to do it right the first time. I looking for recommendations/suggestions and methods of installations. They look to be fairly straight forward. Just designing and building a frame or cage to support and protect the fuel cell is the hardest part. If you have a 70 B body, how did you install yours?

For starters:
What is the application?
What are your current and future fuel options?
Is a real diffuser in your future?
Are you up for replacing a bladder that dates out?
Is budget a concern?
Does anything custom need to be considered, or is off the shelf suitable?
Any rule requirements at play?

Also, I make a distinction between a fuel tank and a fuel cell.

It is a smart solution no matter what the application btw IMO.

For a likely different solution, see what I did on one of my cars here, look at or around pic #53, first thing I think that stands out I rotated 90deg the typical fuel cell to get better exhaust routing on my narrowed leaf's and to help my diffuser design. The pic is somewhat dated but it gives you the idea I hope: 72 Swinger Track day/ProTour practice car

I used a Aeromotive 20 gallon cell in my 65. I bent up a 18 gauge leveler/floor support to place the cell on and had 2 SS straps bent to retain the cell. The base was welded to the floor.

Wow! J-c-c, you brought up some great questions that I had no idea I need to consider. This is what I'm asking for so thank you.
Right now it is being set up for Open Road Racing, but I hope to try to get it on a local road course. So I will be taking a closer look at their rules. I would like to keep it looking somewhat period correct for NASCAR of that era, but obviously updated for safety for myself and as rules require.
Regarding the fuel, the engine is set up for high octane pump gas and I didn't know the bladder dates out. So that will need to be a consideration.
As for a custom cell, I did not relocate the leaf springs so I'll just need to take some measurements and allow for the support cage. and not so much of a budget, I see they are easily over a grand or 2. but again, I only want to buy it once.
I just spent a little time looking at your photos and you've done some amazing work! I'll be taking a closer look at those because you've got me thinking about my project a little differently now.
Thanks again for the suggestions and points to consider.
