Since restored, The original problem was the car would crank and not like to start for 30 seconds. 2 months ago, I started giving it 4 full pumps and it would fire instantly when cold. When hot I started giving it one pump and holding it half way and it would fire in Ten seconds. This worked for 6 weeks.
Then the first time for this issue. We were at the mopar Nats all weekend and on Saturday we ran the car all day off and. On. We went to dinner 30 minutes away and then drove back and was cruising on the new cruise 30 mph to 50 mph to the end of the cruise at a lake. We pulled in to a parking stall and walked around for 30 minutes. We went back to the car and it fire wright up and I backed out and the car stalled and Suzy about had a stroke as it was 7:30 pm. I hit the key and it started and died out imediatly. I had all these mopar guys come cover and we disconnected the fuel line of the carb, and cranked it with no fuel. We siphoned fuel, from one of these guys car and dumped 2 gallons in my tank. The fuel gage read a little above a 1/4 tank which I have always ran it to this point and below.
The gauge is weird, it normally will take between 8 & 11 gallon to fill it up from this 1/4 tank point.
So we put the gas in the tank and hand poured gas in the carb, on the forth time it started I said thanks and we went and got gas. It would only take 5 gallons.
I for got to mention it hates to take fuel when it gets so full, it just bubbles in the filler neck and I stop or it overflows on the body.
After we filled it we just went back to the motel and loaded it up in the morning and headed back to Pa.
The next weekend I got the car out and headed to a show. On the way back 15 miles from home I stop and filled it up again with racing fuel, only 3.5 gallons and it was in the neck again.
On the way one I got on her and at high rpm it ran out of fuel it sounded like. I shifted to 3rd and accelerated hard and it ran out of fuel again.
I headed back to my garage and put her away.
Two days later I said to Suzy let's take the charger to lunch. On the way back going up hill I got on it again and she bogged out and acted like it was out of gas I kept pumping her and she fired up and we went about 250' and it did it again, I pumped it and drove easy and got it back to my shop on the level and she died in front of the Garage door. I left it sit here for 3 hours and it would not start, we pusher her in the shop.
The next day it was cool and I disconnected the fuel line off carb and cranked it with no fuel coming out of the line.
Yesterday I went back and cranked it for 20 seconds and no fuel, I had a clear Pepsi bottle tapped over the line. I cranked again about 30 seconds and no fuel.
I dumped 5 gallons of gas in the tank ( a 5 gal container I had at the shop) I cranked for another 30 seconds and it was pushing little fuel out only as the lobe on the cam would hit the pump. I thought it should push more fuel but who knows.
Now I wondering if it is not a problem with the tank, or
The vent, and there is only one line from the tank to the pump. The bubbling in the tank also has me concerned. I don't mind wasting the money on the new pump but maybe it really isn't the pump.
I am open for your thoughts.
