awhile back I switched to a new fuel sender in my 67 coronet, the old one had a leaking float.

Now when I fill the tank It reads 1/2. When I run it down to empty I still have aprox 8 gals left in the tank.
Sender is working just not adjusted correctly. Ive been using it like this for awhile just running on the top 1/2 of the tank.
Is there away to adjust the reading ? bend the arm ect.

I figure I mabey need to bend the arm up a little so it rides higher in the fuel once the tank is full.
Does this sound right to you guys ? or do I just have a crap aftermarket sender and need a new one ?
I did search the old posts but didn't see one for the 1/2 tank reading when full and how to adjust it out of that.
Thanks for any input.

You need to do the opposite. It reads 1/2 with a full tank because the arm is too far off of the bottom of the tank. The filter sock needs to rest against the tank floor with a very slight interference.
If the filter sits above the bottom, you are not able to use all of the gas in the tank and will run out even with 2 or more gallons of gas.
I had to bend the sending unit 1 1/4" to get mine against the tank floor. I always had a guage reading that was incorrect. Mine holds 19 gallons. When full, it rarely went to 3/4-5/8. With a half tank, the guage read 1/4. With 4.5 gallons in there, mine read dead empty.

Again, it likely isn't the float arm but the entire inlet tube on the inside of the tank. You need to bend the tube with the float arm on it. This allows the float and filter sock to be bent together to the right position.

That makes sense Kern Dog, Thanks.......... sometimes I don't see the forest because of the trees. LOL
