I have been trying to keep database of the 79 300's I see through ebay and craigslist including the ones already on the above site, I count about 175, some could be duplicates as not everyone lists in a VIN number in their ads

i agree that while the style should come back, the 300 nameplate would probably not be usable. But the Cordoba nameplate could be a draw, as long as it's a performance-oriented 'Businessman's Coupe' like the original. As far as design, the original look, encompassing the Cordoba, Magnum, and 300 comes closest to 70's model Jaguars, especially 75-77 models. Well, at least at the front end... but i could see a model based off the current 300 chassis, with more front end and less rear end, with just 2 doors... Problem would be not making it too much like the current Challengers

So the mystery is finally solved? Actually only 3811 ever built? I've seen the number 4292 thrown around so much I was about convinced that was it.

So yeah, a Cordoba 300 LE would be awesome to bring back with retro style.

Even cooler would be the same production numbers, same Spinnaker white paint with red/white/blue pinstripe, red interior.

Here's my actual question... There are 6 numbers at the end of the VIN. Which ones represent the order of the car built?

If I can find my letter and get it scanned, I will post it up for you. the 3811 number was for the U.S. market, the remaining 481 that would bring it to the 4292 number would be for the Canadian market but those are only an appearance package NOT the full performance package that we have. Then there is the 7 that were painted red for the executives. So yes there were 4292 Chrysler 300's built in 1979 but only 3,811 true performance equipped 300s. I would love to be able to find a breakdown of cars built with the options such as how many were made with t-tops, moon roofs, cruise control etc.

The letter I have from Chrysler Historical says that our 300's built in 1979 were not sequentially built therefore the VIN does not state the assembly numbers. They were built to order meaning when a customer ordered a 300 in 1979, the build sheet was created and the car was built along with all other Cordobas that day.

Thanks for the new VIN's, 3 new cars not on the list. For anyone else keeping a list my 2 cars are SS22L9R192585 and SS22L9R192585 and a friend has SS22L9R248396, unfortunately this car is pretty rough and may not be saved. I'll have to look for it, I had started to do a spread sheet of the cars that I was able to to the fender tag information the I was trying to get a break down of options

I would like to see a new updated Chrysler 300 come out.
Standard models can become the Cordoba, AKA, V6 and smallest HEMI engines. The muscled up units can become the 300.
AKA, the big HEMI engines.

No kidding? Damn that's crazy. I've been flustered trying to figure that out. I've never heard of anything like that.

I guess that explains why some had sunroof, power windows, 8 track, etc.

There was also only 5,000 slated to be built, per order....4292 in both U.S. and Canada were ordered and delivered, 3,811 legit 300s! When I bought mine 3 years ago, I found it on Craigslist advertised as a Cordoba. When I got there I quickly realized that it wasn't just your ordinary Cordoba and stole it for $1,400! The guy obviously didn't know what he was selling!

The conversation was relating to the 79 300 cars, which I thought was the topic. And the topic of this thread, along with the other related b-bodies.

As with most models, the high end sport models and high option ones will appreciate first.

300's, Charger Daytonas, Magnum GTs.... even Fury Roadrunners are starting to get just a little love.

Leather, T tops, 400 or 360-4 cars, stuff like that.

I guess the grail would be a 4 speed car. Anyone seen one? I've seen some 4 speed M body cars come out of the woodwork lately.

As pointed out, there are a few oddballs like the "Magnum Force", which is probably already much more valuable despite limited general knowledge.

I have been seeing more and more of these lately, and the asking prices seem to be climbing, but I haven't seen too many sell.

..and no, you can't tell "how many are left", unless you know the whereabouts of every single car produced.
