Garlits anniversary coming to Island Dragway this weekend.

I think the 1st 200mph pass is disputed, as much as I love & respect Big Daddy...
but cool video none the less, thanks for sharing Bobtile...

IIRC there's been a few guys who've claimed it, just wasn't NHRA sanctioned race,
or just not backed up for a "record" in NHRA even...
Eddy Hill in allegedly 1955 2 years before Big's claimed he did it, long before the 1964 Island record pass, then Karamesines, Christman, Ivo, Hale, little know Texan - Chatagnier, {IIRC Kalitta maybe even} then also NHRA's Don Garlits, among quite a few others whom have all claimed it...
Some were allegedly using different more exotic fuels, than Nitro-methane or in another lesser know or defunct racing sanctioning bodies...

Google search, who claims the first 200 mph drag race pass
I checked, just because I remember there was some controversy,
over who was actually the real 1st 200mph pass in drag racing...

I saw different views on BangShift , Draglist , Dragnews , Wikipedia, nhra.net, many other sites too...

I also remember there were alleged claims it happened at Lions, Half Moon Bay, Fremont, Famoso, Cotati, Kingdon & Sacramento all California tracks, long before the 1964 Island race record run too... I guess it depends on who's telling the story & who you want to actually believe...

like I said "it's been highly disputed/contended" for ever,
But Big Daddy is the only one with the NHRA sanctioning body allegedly the 1st 200mph record run & backed up, in an actual NHRA race event...
