13.5 compression.
I got the 1st MMX/microsquirt ignition setup right off of the dyno last winter when Molnar sent me the wrong reluctor wheel to use the MSD 6-hemi controller.
I was having issues early on trying to figure things out with it.
It would backfire and kickback when starting sometimes.

That there sounds like the culprit that damaged your starter. The kicking back donkey is detrimental to the starter castings.
