I have a 69 roadrunner with fairly stock 440. Holley 750 double pumper carb. Standard fuel line ( 3/8 ) i beleive. Electic mallory fuel pump and a regulator set at 5.5-6 llbs

i have always heard a "gurgling" after i shut the car off coming from the fuel tank. I always stink up the garage when i fill up. Today when i heard the gurgle i ran under the back and found an unplugged fuel line "spitting out" some fuel ( like 20 drops altogether).

The line spitting was side by side to the to another metal line at the top of the tank to the right of the sending unit ( to the right when ur under the car). The line was curved like a J near the bulkhead for the rear shock. Not sure if this was the originl return line.

Any ideas what is causing it and if i plug the line will it cause a problem?

Technically, that was not a fuel return line, it was a vent line for fuel vapor. It normally was connected to a steel line that ran alongside the fuel line to the engine compartment. In some cases it was connected to the carburetor, in others it was routed to the fuel filter. In later years, it ran to a charcoal cannister.

i don't know about the 69 but my 68 440 has a vapor separator located behind the alternator. I have four lines, fuel, return to vapor separator and two direct vent lines.

Thank you. I took a closer look and my set up is like this: looks like i have 4 lines...2 fuel - near the sending unit and 2 vapor- at the top of the tank. one fuel supply is routed to the Mallory pump, the other is clamped /plugged. One metal vapor runs up into the trunk does a loop and exits behind the spare. The second metal vapor line is the J shape and just stops about 5ish inchesfrom where it begins.

So with all this...is my leaky gurglemonster fixed if i use a vented gas cap? Existing cap is not vented

On the 68 the second line near the sending unit returns to the vapor separator. The fuel pump connects to the separator and then the top line from the separator connects to the carb.
