I need to swap a dash pad and the entire gauge/bezel assembly on a 73 Satellite/RR (found perfect dash pad and woodgrain bezel/pod). Can I get to all the screws, etc from under the dash or is this going to require full dash removal (I know the gauge cluster shouldn't be too bad (drop steering column ?) but wasn't certain about the pads. Just wanted some insight before diving in, thanks.

I've done 3 now working on my fourth,I always pull the whole dash that way you can inspect everything for future problems plus you can repaint the dash it self and fix all the cut up wires you will find. ;) You will have a really tough time doing it with the dash in the car because every thing will be in your way.
Here are some pic's that might help,if you need more just let me know.

Nope, just remove the top speaker panel to expose the screws. There are 4 screws on top outer edge closest to the windshield (see 1st pic for locations),then a bolt on both sides of the dash where it meets the kick panel. If you look at my last pic you can see the bolting tab hanging down on the far left bottom corner. There are also support brackets under the dash that you will undo when you drop the steering column down.

So to swap dash pads and gauge clusters I'll be removing both complete dashes - wonderful. This should be fun in 95 degree weather. NOT.

You can remove the Gauge cluster on it's own if thats all your looking to do but changing the pad as well.....Pull the dash :)

No problem :) if any one needs a special pic let me know, I have 1 dash out at the moment and don't mind helping out when I can.

is this the same for the chargers, also? i am currently doin a 73 se and have to pull the dash, and they look exactly alike.

Great information

Need some help on the paint

I have a 1973 RR and I have removed the dash, pad & cluster and will replace with restored parts etc.

What shall I paint the metal dash with i understand its a special matt type paint.
Can you give me a spec for a spray can and also a manufacture brand and number in case I have someone spray it with a compressor.

Should i sand it lightly, prime it and then paint with this satin black trim paint ?

Any advice would be helpful, want to get it right
