My power steering gearbox is leaking where the steering column goes into the gearbox. Is there any way this can be fixed without taking the gearbox out? I tried Lucas P/S sealer and a few others with no luck.
I have a leak in my 73 Lincoln Mark IV, that I haven’t got around to fixing yet. I read your post and thought I would give the NAPA seal lube a try, but I can’t find it doing a web search. Only thing I can find is STP power steering fluid stop leak. Which I will try if I can’t find what you are suggesting. I never knew they made any types of power steering fluid stop leak products.A few years ago, I saw a guy with a Ford pickup truck and his steering box was leaking; not just dripping, it was squiring out. This happened to be in front of a NAPA store. Well, the guy went in to find out if they had anything that would help slow or stop the leak. They recommended a product called "Seal Lube", which they carried in stock. He poured a little in the reservoir & it stopped completely in minutes. I bought a bottle of it and have used it successfully on various leaks over the years. Good luck with your gearbox whatever you decide to do!
Thanks. I was using seal lube as in your previous post and not seallube as one word and I couldn’t find it. I then switched my search to power steering stop leak, and while seallube was not a top hit, I found Lucas Oil brand that claims to do the same thing “guaranteed”, so being Lucas Oil, I went ahead and got that. If it doesn’t work I’ll try the SealLube.I am in NJ. I just googled it & it's even available at Amazon.
It's guaranteed to not change viscosity.
Good luck finding it in your area. It isn't a NAPA product and not cheap, but it is made in the USA and it has never failed me!

Snake oils seldom do anything.I used the Lucas product and it did nothing, maybe slowed it a bit.
In general, I agree! There is also (Prayer), lol. The Gods must have been watching over me the times I used it. Perhaps the "OMighty" decided to cut me some slack as after my divorce way back when, I was one step from being a pauper! Now I'm gettin too old to do anything these days. Thank the Lord that I can still pop open a beer!Snake oils seldom do anything.
Well that’s disappointing. I’ll let you know if it works for me.I used the Lucas product and it did nothing, maybe slowed it a bit.
Except maybe more fluid leaking all over the place.Nothing to lose to try an additive first.
going to give it one more try, than if not I'll pull it and change the seal.Snake oils seldom do anything.
Why pull it?going to give it one more try, than if not I'll pull it and change the seal.
In my case, these issues were on my daily drivers, (Not Toys)! When you have long commutes & work shifts (7 days in a row) & don't have a garage; you do the quick, stop gap thing first. I have commuted approx. 1.8 million miles in my work life & still doing it. I drove 140 miles round trip for 21 years; 100 a day for 11 years, & 165 miles a day for 3 years. Lately it's only 34 miles round trip for the last 12 years, but it is still 7 shifts in a row on rotating shifts, including the Damn midnight shift! We get one weekend off a month; 7 shifts in a row for straight time!. By the law of averages, I have been dead for a year or so already! There are other guys on this site in the same boat, it Sux! If you have a REAL job, with weekends & holidays off, count your lucky stars! I have spent quite a few nights laying on the frozen ground, sometimes with a flashlight in my mouth, just keep my old vehicles running with absolute minimum repairs / service! When talking about a "Toy" or something of value or treasured, it's another ball game! Even concerning my RR clone, I do the best I can with the time & $ that I have. This doesn't even include me fixing my 2 kids vehicles! I do the quickest & cheapest repair possible, whenever possible without sacrificing safety! "no wonder I am getting tired & cranky, lol!"Nothing to lose to try an additive first.
