Valvoline High Performance Gear Oil 80w90.

Rear is a 67 model 8 3/4, 3.55 gears and suregrip. Is my choice of oil/weight okay?

Thought I'd ask, since many of you (if not all) know a bunch of this stuff. Don't have much on manuals for my mix of parts and pieces.

I've got to drain the oil, anyway, to do something I really hate the thought of having to do. But, it's my own fault. Just not looking forward to it.
Thought I'd catch-up with time, do the 'new and improved', but I knew better. Now, I'll pay for it.
Have to fix my leaky gasket. Just a real slow drip, but it needs to be fixed. So, gotta drop the third member, get the 'new and improved' sealant off, and do it right.

If anyone is walking by (wait 'til I'm under the car), give me a good, swift kick!

don't forget to add the friction modifier for the sure grip

I meant to bring that up. The gear oil container label says it's good for positrac. Still need to add the sure grip additive, though, right?

I would...I have never trusted the gear oils that say they work for all sure-grip or posi rear gears....the additive is maybe $5...and it's just peace of mind

Would there be a reason not to use the Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic Gear Oil 75W-90 instead? According to Valvoline, it contains special additives to reduce chattering in limited-slip differentials. Not familiar with this product, so not sure you would also need the friction modifier. Just a thought.

I would probably add it anyway. I've got Lucas Synthetic gear oil in mine that also stated it is good for limited slip. However, everytime I make a slow sharp turn my whole car chatters. I'll be adding in some additive ASAP.

do not leave out the additive...for reason stated above..just because the new oil says it's good for limited slip..his still chatters...

your friendy mopar dealer sells this stuff... I would add 2 Bottles of friction modifier in a 8.75 rearend... most of the JEEP Guys use 2 bottles in the rear axle... and 1 bottle in the front axle...

Greetings Juergen

There are no friendly mopar dealers around, anymore. Not by looking at the sky high prices they want for ever little part. $60 for a lousy pair of 73 rotor dust caps! Somebody give me a break.

Great advice, guys. Much thanks! Yeah, I'll check into the right amount for the additive. Wonder if Valvoline makes it?

Yup, sky high dealer prices and I'm not sure they even carry the same formulation additive anymore. Last time I changed the lube in the 9 1/4 rear, the additive didn't do anything but let it chatter worse so I drained it again and used STP in it's place. That was over 60k miles ago and it has been fine since.
