So since I decided to replace the whole power steering system (heck everything else is new) I ordered a new pump, line and gear.. Fought the old gear out tonight and put the new one in and the pitman arm is too big.

My old gear has a thicker sector shaft...go to the parts store and they list the same gear (one I got) for just about every freaking vehilce we tried...but I look on rock auto and it shows two different pitman arms.

SO how can you get a box with the right size shaft or do I need to just suck it up and get the other pitman arm? (this pitman is new already)

What model and year are you working with? Sounds as if they're giving you the '62-'72 box with the small output shaft. If you're bound and determined to buy parts store "remanufactured" crud, specify a box for an '85 Dodge Diplomat and you'll be sure to get the large output shaft. But really, if you're going to the trouble of redoing the whole steering system, why not get a good rebuild with added road feel/feedback and self-centring action from Steer & Gear or Firm Feel?

Got it...This was a quick want to get it going thing, but I think that is exactly what I will do..

Thanks
