Wifey is away for the weekends with the girlfriends, left to my own devices I decided on one more Sierra camping trip. This time, took the Dart instead of the 4runner. Camping alone, no cell service for miles in the off-season, in a 50 year old car. What could possibly go wrong?

[Edit: my first pass narrative didn't save]
Trunk is loaded down.

Dropping down into Truckee on the backside of Donner Summit; 5th gear @2,200 rpm, outside temp low 50's. The gauge dropped to below operating, usually sits between E-M. Used 1/4 tank the first 90 miles to Truckee; got 15.5 mpg roundtrip

Rebuilt the front end last Feb using PST and Moog parts, along with a rebuilt man box by Firm Feel. Hwy 49 is miles of twists and turns; it was a blast to drive. The Dart handles incredibly well.

Sierra Buttes; lake is around 6,400' elev.

Roundtrip was 260 miles, started at 160', crested over 7,500' at the summit, camped at 6,200'. With the carb, idle was expectedly poor at elevation, but otherwise the car ran flawlessly. Started first try every time. Terrain wasn't the best for headers; no need to do it again, but another item is crossed off the bucket list.

 Awesome. Thanks for the pics, looks like some beautiful scenery. Hope you had a good time.

Love taking my old cars when I go backpacking/hiking...well when I was able to backpack/hike.

My last trip with my Coronet was at Yosemite.

Im taking a cross country trip in a '70 International Harvester Travelall I bought in SF. Hit Sequoia National Park yesterday, The Grand Canyon today. I wanted to tent camp on the way but the wife won't have any of that.

She's worried about "the snake", coming in to the tent, lol.

Are you saying Dennis H lives like a homeless dude?
Looks like loads of fun, enjoy

Taking a long trip in a vintage vehicle is a rewarding experience. Dennis does it all the time in his Coronet. Hawk traveled cross country in his Roadrunner.
Now I'm ready for Spring Fling in LA.

Good for you, Rich. Maybe time for the FiTech on the Dart? Glad you had a good experience.

Really want to do something like that in my Coronet someday. Really like to run down to Chicago area and pickup Route 66 and take in all the way to LA/Santa Monica Pier. My mom and her boyfriend drove the Harley that route several years ago and had a great time.

I prefer Cabins with Saloons within walking distance. Unpredictable flash floods like this one at Pyramid Lake, Nevada enhance the experience and subsequent tall tales. The best part was hundreds of reliable Mopar miles.

Route 66 is also on the bucket list. With early Mopar or not...

You always have good stories after your road trips. I want to hear about the time you went fishing....

Many years ago, went to a waterski club event at Lake McClure in the Coronet. I discovered beforehand that I could comfortably sleep in the trunk by positioning myself diagonally. Left the lid open slightly, and kept a flashlight and pliers with me inside in case some drunk camper locked me in!

I like this one at the Saga in Pasadena. Going there on New Years! Dexter.

Looks like a great time! Did you notice, while you were checking the one out on your right, the one on the left was checking you and your car out.
