just need to clear up on the timing.

how do i set initial timing around 10-12? how do i know when #1 is on the compression stroke and which one is the compression stroke?

once she fires up and warms up do i turn dizzy until it starts to miss then tuen back a bit and that should give me a good tun

fuel issues again mate, did run and god damn sounds awesome. going to go an electric pump like i should of done i just wanted to be different.

did you run it long enough to break the cam in ?

Despite all the opinions on here, if you're not going to use your new super pump, I recommend just ordering a Carter high performance mechanical pump and being done with it. No wiring, no re-doing plumbing and no confounded noise. Quit screwing around and get that thing running. You're not going Pro Stock racing are you?
BTW, what were your 'fuel issues'?

i think the problem is my cam.
i was told by " racepumps" that for my pump to work i need a 3.242" pushrod and the cam lobe needs to lift .375".
we bench primed the pump it ran good, checked pushrod length its perfect, havent checked cam but on the end of the bronze tip on the ppushrod you can see it is touching.

pulled the hoses off the pump and cranked the motor over to see if the plunger in the pump was moving and it didnt even budge so i think i have narroewed it down to the cam lobe. so im not sure if a mech pump will work unless i find out that the cam is fine and it is something else.

will that carter work for my engine? its a 505 12.1 comp around 650hp - 700 tq (not official) i ahve 1/2" fuel lines everywhere.

benno, what kinda cam you got in that thing? Are you aware that some cams do not come with a fuel pump lobe?

i think mine does have one depending on size of it is a different story or whether i have wiped it im not sure i would think not as the cam hasnt even been run in yet.

reason i think it does have one is when i put pump on last time it wouldnt go in as was hitting, so i bumped motor over and it went in fine so it must of been ON lobe. but i am going to whack a dial gauge on tonite and see if it does and what lift it has.

Yeah, I'm sure it has one. I think it's only some select roller grinds that don't have the fuel pump lobe. Have you rotated the engine with the fuel pump off to see if the push rod works and how far the travel is?
 
Benno: Yes, the Carter will work. Keep reminding yourself: It's a STREET car, not an all out race car. Get it running before you lose interest or run out of money!

problem is i have spent heaps on 1/2" fuel lines and i see the carter has 3/8" will it be okay to use a reducer?
also my cam i dont think has enough lift on it i have been told there should be .375 and i only have .300"?

The fuel lines are fine. Overkill, but will work fine. Put the Carter pump on with the reducers and fire that thing up. Don't look for problems that may not exist (cam lobe, etc.).

you know this is a stroker putting probably 620hp? i remember someone originally told me i wont gte enough fuel for this motor from a mechanical pump. but if you recommend i will try it out

definetly gonna try one of these, 2 moe things do you need to run a reg. for this mech pump? and it says it has only 1/4" inlet and outlet line is there any models with bigger at least 3/8" if not 1/2"

If you use the pump I indicated in the above post, you should use a regulator. As far as size of the fittings, we're talking about 1/4" pipe thread. It will work fine. Remember also that the combined total of your inlet needle and seats is a lot smaller than the fitting area. IMO the return line is optional. I know there are guys that swear by them but I raced for a lot of years and never used a return line with any combination of carburetors. They became necessary when cars went to injection and the fuel pressure increased dramatically. I'll bet the Carter M6903 would work fine for you as well, and you wouldn't have to use a regulator with it (6.5* max.). Use one or the other and get your car on the road. If you want to tweak it later you can.
