hard to tell from pic but it looks like the intermediate shaft. Runs off cam to turn oil pump below and distributor up top. big block right?

yes this is that 400 I tore done to do stroker, but I don't know if that hole should be there or not, the edge looks chipped up so figured it broke open.

No, it's not broken. That's called casting flash. It's left over from the casting process. A lotta folks clean all that up and deburr the whole block. I never bother unless a piece looks like it's gonna break off.

You're askin good questions. That's the way to learn.

why would the edge of the HOLE be jagged like it was broken, and what is a cost to get block all done, dipped, check if it is cracked what ever that is called and .030 over and square and finish the deck new cam bearings, frost plugs , I got a price here to have it all done ready for stroke kit.thx

**** I was scared for a minute, now I can sleep tonight.

It's all good dude. You learned somethin new. Consider today a success.

I don't know about machine work where you are but here I can get that done for...

Clean block- 35

Magnaflux for cracks- 25

Bore- 12 a hole

Square deck with centerline of crank- 150

Cam bearings- 100

Freeze plugs- Learn to do it yourself.

I gotta cam bearing and freeze plug my Hemi block. I'll do a short freeze plug how to. Although my Hemi takes welsh plugs and they are a little different. I already posted a cam bearing how to. If you feel froggy, buy you a tool and follow my how to. It's easy.

Yes today turned out to be a good one, and I am a person that likes to learn and never say I already know that, and even if I do. LOL Thanks for all the help and will get couple more prices around, this guy I was referred to would charge me 850.00 with parts. That is twice the price of you guys. WOW

Thanks guys for all the help.

MOD you can remove, got my answers that were needed. THX

mach123 your not the only one, a ton of people panic, when they see the rough casting & flash, when I have a bare block, after tearing them down before machine work or cleaning, I always get rid of most all that stuff, make the edges smoth at a minimum, get rid of anything that looks like it may break off, a carbide tip & a abrasive porting bit on a peanut grinder works great... Have fun....

Thanks for all the help, Can't wait to start building stroker now, I have all the stock parts if anyone needs some. Or will see if any school can learn from parts.
