Lookin for a good overhaul transmission kit for a 1967 big block torqueflite 727, transmission was in decent shape and came from a driving 440 car, but leaks around the shifter linkage seal, so im gonna be opening it up and would like to go ahead and replace everything. Looking for mostly street use, with occasional track days. I need a full overhaul kit, not just a new filter and gasket. Thanks for the input!! Also, anybody know of a 727 transmission rebuid walkthrough video? and are there any special tools?

I recommend "Torqueflite A-727 Transmission Handbook" by Carl Munroe. Good explanations and pictures, and only about $15 on amazon. The book lists special tools you might need. Not all are necessary, but sure make the job easier.

you will need a clutch spring compressor to disassemble the front drum, snap ring pliers,
a "c" type valve spring compressor will work to help remove the kick down servo
a 15/16 impact socket will work to drive in the new selector seal.
most likely your leak is from the kickdown lever post on very top there is an e clip remove it the washer and you will find a small cup seal. all most always overlooked during a rebuild.
you will also need bushing driverrs

depending on your engine set up there are a many things to do to the unit to beef it up.
I always tell my customers if the unit will see any track time to replace the front drum with a billet steel one.
that drum can easily explode even with a stock motor!

if you lose traction at 4500-5000 RPM in first gear ( hopefully you are in manual low and the Low rev band is applied) or the rear sprag lets loose that front drum will spin at 2.2 X engine RPM and the that cast drum will come apart from centrifugal force and it's coming through the floor board
A&A trans parts
cope racing have a good selection of parts
good luck

BTW you dont need to open it up to change the shift selector seal and the Kick down shaft seal

I dont know where its leaking but i came out of a car ive only owner for three weeks, all the gears seemed to work decent but it was leaking pretty badly, its out of a 67 300, And the car hasnt been inspected since 81, so i figure it needs a going through. And yea its the kickdown, sorry. anybody know if the ssr kit is good?

i like the stuff tsr has, but do they have a kit thats good for the street? Ill only be hittin the track maybe twice a year, but street driving 3-4 times a week. Or does there drad race kit do it?

how much HP are you making?
have you ever been in an automatic transmission?
what are you expecting from the unit?
I've been building transmissions for the better part of 30 years I cant tell you how many people have brought me a disassembled unit and asked me to put it together, or have brought me a unit and told me they rebuilt it and it doesnt work.
there really isnt much difference between kits pricing depends on which frictions and steels you choose i personally dont use Kevlar bands they are tough on drums.
most mistakes are made when you replace hard parts worn drums, worn governor supports etc or when you miss a worn hard part. do you have the tools to change bushings?
there are different shift kits available from different manufacturers
I don't mean to discourage you just hate to see you spend $$ you dont need to and have to pull a unit because something isnt right
suppose someone installed a shift kit already would u know by disassembling the unit? there is no substitute for experience
again I'm not trying to sound like an *** but from your posts it's obvious that you have very little or no experience
building. we are all here to help lots of knowledge and experience on this board

total tranny experience = 0 :icon_hang:

Ive given up tryin to rebuild it myself, i found a guy in burlseon that will rebuild it for $450 sounds good to me, dont know if he is gonna get everything that needs to be rebuilt, heres what he said.

""We give a 3 YEAR WARRANTY ON PARTS AND LABOR on every automatic that we rebuild and install. This is the best warranty among all independent transmission shops. Our prices are very reasonable. The price you get quoted is the real price and we do not call you back and want additional money for so called "hard part damage". We replace your electronic solenoids with brand new O.E.M. solenoids when we rebuild your transmission - not just simply "test" your solenoids. We use Toledo master rebuild kits which include all new heavy duty clutches, kevlar bands, we install bushing kits, bearing kits, washer kits, set up your clutch clearances to factory specs, fully update your transmission, rebuild the valve body and pump, install Precision torque converters, etc... We do not just replace a few parts and call it a "rebuild". Give us a call at Bill Burrows Procision Transmission - (817)-426-5430 or (817)-774-0325 or (817)-478-9752 and ask for Bill. Our address is 480 N. Broadway (Hwy.174), Joshua, Texas 76058. We are located on Hwy. 174 between the Joshua Pharmacy and the Allstate Insurance Agency. We have been in business for 30 years and 95% of our workload comes from word of mouth. We are the exclusive transmission builder for at least 20 area garages, Johnson County Municipality, Frito-Lay (local), Blue Bell, DFW Airport, Mrs. Bairds, and numerous other fleet accounts. When you call, ask for Bill. I am the owner (not a salesman earning commission) and you can talk directly to me. If you are not talking to Bill, you are at the wrong place. Don't be confused by a business with a similar name as my shop and is located in the same town as my shop. We are NOT affiliated and are completely different. Thanks.

sounds good to me, too good to be true?

450.00 for a stock rebuild including R&R is a good price here in NYC area it would be in the 800 dollar range
good luck

Thanks, i just talked to my buddy mark, and he has had three transmissions rebuilt from this place, and all are working good, And one of them is behind a procharged 512ci stroker running 800+ on nos, so i think ill be good with 4-450 :angel1:
