Well, since I recently sold our lake lot (where it had been stored), and because my town hasn't granted permission yet for my pole barn garage (14 months and counting :banghead:) I decided to let it go.

It's an '87 Shelby Charger GLHS, and it was a faithful steed for years. We certainly broke a lot of hearts back in the late 80's/early 90's. I can't count how many Mustangs and Camaros I smoked with it, with only a few driveway mods! Oh, the look on their faces! :icon_confused: Anyway, I sold it to a friend who just had to have it back in about '98, and he proceeded to trash the thing. :angry4: So I bought it back for $500 just to save it from the boneyard around '01, with full intentions of fixing it back up. Well, one thing led to another, and with it needing basically a ground up restoration, it just never came to be.

Thankfully, I did manage to find a fellow Mopar nut who is very excited about it, and plans on that total redo. At least it won't go to the crusher. There were only 1500 of these made (x 2 years), and of course ol' Shel won't be making anything anymore. Just thought I'd share a piece of history of when Ma Mopar finally got back into the performance game.

sorry for the loss

I had an 87 Shelby lancer & later, 89 Shelby CSX & a 87 Omni GLHS. They were good cars for me at the time, but that was then; I wouldn't want them today.

Sorry for your loss and hopefully he is in a better place now.

14 months and they haven't said yea or nea? That is unexcusable! I would be standing on SOMEBODY's desk!...unless you are not actually ready yourself.

Sorry to hear that dik .. what's the hold up on the permit? Looks like s secluded area from the pics

My cousin had one of those back in the day. You're right those things are pretty fast. We had a lot of fun it that little car. Glad to see it not being salvaged.

Thanks guys. It is definitely going to someone who will fix it back up, so that helps a lot. It's all good, just one of those projects that never quite materialized for me.

As for the garage, they have said "nay", repeatedly. Believe you me, I have been damn near on that desk a few times too, Dako! :violent1: It all has to do with the size of it. I need a large space to house my cars, trucks, ATVs, etc. and still have room for an actual work space for them. I am in a fairly secluded area, and I have 7 acres. The problem however, is that my zone is for 1 acre lots, so I am having to play by those rules. I have tried changing designs (4 times), going through the variance process (twice), and even going with 2 separate buildings (which I really didn't want), all to no avail. I think I may have finally worn them down though, because last fall the board agreed to re-write the code book (which they said was long overdue anyway) this winter. They said they empathized with me, and I was assured that allowances would be made for my situation. We will see, as I was supposed to call and talk with them after March 1 about it. Fingers crossed that the phone call Monday morning will confirm that they can be taken at their word. If not, let's just say it won't be pretty.:angryfire:
