I need to buy a safe and I have been looking at the fat boy 64 made by liberty safe company. It is American made and comes with a good warranty. Does anyone have one and do you like it or not? Do you like another brand or model better?

They're all pretty good except for one thing. They'll keep thieves out but not moisture. Load up on drying agents.

I'm still searching,

many safes are tough to open from the front, but the sides and rears are weak. I'm still looking.

I have a 48 gun tall body CANNON that I picked up from Tractor Supply. Seems nice. GOOD warranty. Got it for $300 off on the Black Friday Sale.

Liberty makes a good safe. Big factors with safes are the number, size and location of the door bolts - making sure you have them top and bottom as well as the sides. Door and wall thickness of course and also to make sure you have internal hinges, not the ones on the outside. Outside hinges allow the doors to open wider but are also easier for a crook to work on. Don't skimp on the investment and not get maximum fire resistance lining. It obviously helps during a fire but also helps to seal the door to outside air / moisture. For moisture control use an electric heating element like a "Goldenrod". They are cheap and they work. If you keep your safe in the living area of your house and keep the house environment controlled year round you really don't need to add anything in the safe - but a Goldenrod is cheap assistance.

Thanks for the Information, does liberty offer the features you are referring to?

I have a Cannon.
Purchased thru COSTCO in 2006.
It has the electronic keypad and the "Captains-wheel" for handle.
NOTE: The amount of "Bars" in door that slide into safe to lock is an indication of Safe quality.
Simply put, the more "Bars" the more the dollar figure.
Mine is about 700 Lbs empty.
ALSO: Be sure the safe you purchase can be placed where you want it.
I had to remove a spare bedroom door to get mine in the room.
Another thing; a good "Appliance Dolly sure helps!
I had to remove the tailgate of my Tundra in order to get it in AND out.
(Do not damage the tailgate with all that weight)

Liberty "has or had" a few different series mostly cosmetic but also build quality. More door bolts, thicker door bolts, thicker steel in the doors, fire resistance rating etc. along with the sizes. You'd have to shop around to see what you can find in your area and determine how far you want to go since it will come down to dollars in the end - all else being equal.

Hi Redman. I don't have a Fat Boy but I did purchase a Liberty Revere model this past November and I LOVE IT. I purchased it mainly due to it being made in the U.S. Didn't go for the 'electronic' lock as I've read they've had some problems with them but otherwise it was a great purchase at a fantastic price. And while at it, I did purchased a dehumidifier that I can plug in to recharge. Just hangs up in the safe which is more than enough for my needs although with this unit I suspect you can install an internal one along with internal lighting.

Liberty's fire test ...there oven is up to heat in 10 to 15 minutes , most others take up to 45 minutes to get up to heat meaning the true fire time is not measured the same (so I'm told). I just bought the liberty revolution 18 4 to 6 weeks delivery Its not the top of the line but for $500 it will keep the normal crook out. Liberty has a great warranty, my neighbor had his house broken into and the keypad to the safe was broken off....the next day liberty had a new keypad at his door and offered to have the local dealer install it for free.

I have a hidden safe in a wall of my house. I bought a used Safe for this many yearsago and keep anti mouisture tablets in the safe to keep my Hand gun collection safe. The 1911 is at the back of my Headboard and .41 Long colt in nite stand.

make sure where ever it's going the floors are strong enough for the extra weight too....

I've owned a Liberty safe for many years and been satisfied with it. I did add a plug in dehumidifier rod though.
