Happy Birthday Big Daddy

One word. Legend. What a mind and what guts. If you haven't read or heard his story of how he got the, then new, 426 Hemi to come around, it's a great story. I saw him match race at Union Grove around 1981 or there abouts. He signed my Direct Connection hat that day. Almost 30 years later, he did the same for my daughter and her Mopar hat. We went to his museum in 2009 the Monday after the Gator Nationals, and he was there just walking around like he was no big deal. But that's how he is. I think it was 2010 that he was still pulling his old time trailer to NHRA events with his Dodge dually. We saw Pat sitting in it with the dogs while Don was out doing whatever he was doing. Even after all those years and all those wins and all that fame, he was still just doing his thing with his wife with no entourage or any handlers.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. We Mopar guys are lucky to have arguably the two best of their classes in our cars all those years - Don Garlits and Richard Petty. Happy Birthday, Big!
