Hard starts and stalling

Happy new year! Sounds like you found the problem.
I think the old 1980's MTBE fuel may have been a problem when the gas evaporated it clogs the fuel sock and pickup?
I bought a '77 Cordoba for $100 because it had the 360 4-bbl engine. The guy had it on a trailer and was taking it to the scrap yard, but stopped at the speed shop when I happened to be there. The front clip had some damage, but the rest of the car wasn't too bad. I decided to repair the car because I wanted a car with cruse control. It also was a sunroof car, power windows and such. Long story short, the fuel pickup and sock were clogged with a black sticky tar like substance. At the time, I was told it was the MTBE additive? But maybe someone put sugar in the tank?
