What are the pros and cons or differences between attaching the upper shoulder harness to the crossbar behind the seat with a bolt and welded tab, or just loop the belts around the bar?
And while talking about harnesses, what's a good safe harness without killing my wallet?, for a 11sec car.

I like the bolt through the bar with the sleeve in it. RCI Platinum for $79.00 for 4 year certification.
If you can wait another month, I'll have a set for sale brand new with good dates for $67.00 and with 4 year recertification.

Thanks anyway but I've got a long way to go before my car is ready so I'll wait till the last things before ordering a harness. That way I won't waste any of the 4 years. Sorry, I have to ask, Is that harness tab right behind your neck? Seems like if the seat gave backward any your spine would get chopped. Just curious..

The seat is now fixed to the roll bar, so that wont occur. My 65 Plymouth is done the same way now.

I have a tab, but do not use it. They are just wrapped around the bar. They work fine.

Holzman Race Cars welded a tab to the back of my crossbar for attaching the shoulder harnesses. They said that a looped belt is best for seats that have high backs that the belts go through. With my short Superstock seats, the bolt on harness keeps its position better.

I was under the understanding that the rules didn't allow you to just wrap the straps around the crossbar anymore. They need to be positively located so they cannot slide side to side.

Doesn't NHRA still require 2 year re-certification?

yes, but RCI gives you a free 2 more year recertification card so you can send them in and they send you new belts as what looks like to me. The SFI tag shows like 2-1/4 more years from my experience. Great bang for your buck.

Yup, total bullshit.... Just like most of their money-grab safety rules.

Ya, when the 2 year re-certification rule came in, I was racing 50+/- days & 250-275 runs a year. This past 2 year period 7 days & 36 runs + 400 street miles. My belts are barely broken in. I sure agree with safety but.....

My belt 2 year cert expires at the end of April this year so I am buying RCI Platinum belts which give you a extra 2 year cert. Just send them back to them for recertification after the first 2 years.
Only way to go...

I have stock buckets (68 fish) , platinum, wrapped around the crossbrace, w/ a locator to keep them from sliding out.
