Has anyone reset the valve that triggers the red "brake" warning light on dash?

My '72 SSP with power disc brakes stops just fine. The problem is that ever since I purchased it last December, the red brake warning light on dash is on all the time. If I unplug the electrical wire under the master cylinder on the valve that is integral with the steel brake lines, then the light goes off. Bleeding the brakes twice has not solved the problem, neither has overhauling the rear brakes. The front brake rotors are not scored, and the front brake pads have plenty of lining left. Other threads mention the same problem but end without a follow-up or definitive solution to the problem. Thank you for any additional information.

Even when these were new, they could be a problem. A person used to be able to buy a simple tool which replaced the switch, which mechanically kept them centered during brake work. Of course it had to be centered, to start with.

My guess is that now, "50 years later" some of them are gummed up, stuck, corroded. You used to be able to reset them by bumping the pedal, and bleeding one end or the other to create enough pressure to center the valve.

I don't know. You can try cracking a line on it with a person above to operate the pedal, but you may just have to tear it apart.

Just to be clear, these are not a valve, they are a switch.

I have the same problem on my 71 Charger!!! I ended up pulling the plug on the switch, so i would LOVE a good answer!

you try lightly tapping it with a hammer, maybe help free it up .... I don't know about a "reset" for those ....

If it's the Cast Iron one there are places that rebuild them. I had mine rebuilt by The Ram Man. As far as I know these units are no longer made.
