So, i have had my 73 Roadrunner for 30 years now, and its undergoing complete restoration, but when i started cleaning up the drive shaft this weekend, saw this, thought it was pretty cool. I guess the last time i changed u-joints, about 25 years ago, there must have been too much dirt and grime that i didnt notice it or just forgot about it.

Built/forged/cast/assembled in Detroit, you got to love that, when the American Auto industry was still king...

Hello. Quick question. That s/n on top starts with a 27. I was told the second # is the year. Any way that drive shaft came out of a 67? Just wondering.

Wow!
Yeah, the "good ol' days"
When "WE"" (America) "walked softly and carried a big stick"
America has ALWAYS made the best cars, period! From the Dusenbergs to the Dobler's (Steamers)
Stanley Steamers to the Stutz Bearcats.
From the magnificant Chryslers of the 30s to the Hudsons, Packards, Pierce Arrows, Desotos, Lincolns and Cords.
AND: The center of the Universe WAS Detroit.

We still carry a big stick. Its just got (Made in China) stamped on the end of it. And can only be used once because it may break. Then we buy another stick from them. Thats how they get all our money, repeat customers.

Good find! Detroit, what a difference 30 years brings.. cool and then sad.. :tearyeyed:

That's a general rule of thumb for 1XXXXX and 2XXXXX series parts and it helps estimate the first year of use. Common parts could carry over from year to year with the same PN. Parts were not renumbered every year.

Sorry for the old bump

Also had my driveshaft out recently and remembered this thread, and sure enough under all the crud it was there ;)

New U joints also stamped with Made in USA.
