In the garage. Under the hood. Again.
Well, the as-yet-unnamed(I give all my mistresses "names") '64 Sport Fury is in need, serious need, of some new rear springs. I'd like something that bolts on and still raises the rear of the car slightly;I know that there's some modifications required to install 3400lb S/S springs(my preference),and I'm wondering if the XHD Mopar replacement springs would fit,as far as length-wise? If I have to move the front hanger,I will, but would like to get some opinions on what alternatives there are for the 62-5 cars that bolt in. Planning on running a 28-29 inch tall rear tire-255/70-15 or 275/60-15. Thanks for any help, folks!

I purchased 6 leaf rear springs from St. Louis Spring Co for my '64 Max Wedge Belvedere. I had been running air shocks to raise the back end. I had St. Louis Spring put an addtional 2 inches of arch in the rear springs, and it raised the rear end as high as when the air shocks were fully extended (26" from the ground to the top of the rear wheel well).

I may be wrong about this, but the SS springs are the correct length for your car. If it sits to high with those, you can flip the front hangers to drop it a bit. You'll need to do a bit of "adjusting" on the 4 holes that mount the hangers, but that's a minor thing

I believe that the SS springs are 2" short for a '64, but they may fit a '63 just fine.

Well,I just purchased a set of replacement springs from McVeigh's in Mio,MI. They told me that they would raise the car 1 inch in the rear;when they go on,I'll get some pics out here for reference. The real test will come when the desired wheel/tire combo is on there.

Mods: I feel this thread still has some importance to some folks;if you feel it's too much of a duplication of toniflexen's "Leaf Spring Question",give it a proper burial.

The SS springs are indeed 2 inches shorter in the front segment....they shortened them to stop windup.

You can use them, but you will need the longer front spring hangers (they are in the MP catalog).
