I bought a set of steel wheels off Classic Industries. Fifteen by seven with four inch back spacing for the front. Fifteen by eight with four and half inch back spacing for the rear. It's been suggested that I use P215/70R15 front, and P27560R15 rear. How ever, looking over the forum, I see the rear may give me problems, getting them off and on, fender clearance wise. Can you guys straiten this out for me ? Would a P275/50R15 for the rear be better ? They are just narrower ? Just like the oversized tire look.

Thanks

The width of the tire is 275mm on both. The 50 or 60 is the aspect ratio which is the height to the side wall as a percentage of the width so either 50% or 60% of 275mm. If you to a narrower tire then a 255 or 265 tire is what you are looking for.

If you are worried about getting the tire off and on you may have to disconnect the shock and that will let the rear end hang a little more when you jack it up.

I have 245/60/15's in the rear and I cannot remove the wheel if I place the jack under the rear end or the axle housing. I must raise the body and let the suspension hang to get enough clearance.

Anyone else add to what is posted here, I'd appreciate your input.

What's the year and model of your car ?

For reference the tires on the back of my old 67 were 255/70/15, it was a tall tire (29 inches) but it I loved the look.

I am using 275-60s on a 15x8 1/2 slotted mags on my 68. Tight fit that needed some wheel well trimming. To get them off I need to jack up at the frame rail. Dont know if your car has a smaller well. I think you should be good with the 8in and a 4 1/2 back space. How about putting the bare rim on and do some measuring?

Good suggestion wagonman, thanks.

15x8 with 4.5 BS and 275/60's will not fit without mods. Trust me, I've tried. 15x7 with 4 3/8 BS (maybe4.5 BS) and 275/60 will fit. But a bear to get on/off.

try a 255/60r15.slightly smaller, but shouldnt need any mods to get to fit.

When I bought my 67, it had 235-60-15 BF Goodrich radial TA on 8 inch wheels and the tires just barely rubbed on a standard backspace 15" Torq Thrust wheel. When I went to a 7 inch wheel Vintiques Magnum wheel the same tires clear fine. Have to jack the rear wheel about 3 inches off the ground on a floor jack on the frame to get the rears off.

255's are recommended to be run on rims from 8.5 to 10 inches wide. These are not going to work with stock wheels. Nothing is more annoying than tires that just clear and then don't on bumps or on a with a car with four people in it.
