I have a 383 w/ ported 906 heads. What header gaskets should i use. The car sounds like a sewing machine at soft idle, when i punch it i hear all motor.
I checked the bolts and they're tight...i've heard of copper ones being good. I currently have aluminum ones.

The copper gaskets are good if the header flanges are perfect. I always recommend Remflex exhaust gaskets. They are made out of a flexible graphite material and are very forgiving of imperfect header flanges. I've always had good luck with them. They are sold at most NAPA parts stores.

would you double up on them?

just ordered them online. NAPA does not carry them.

If your header flanges are so warped that you would be tempted to double up on the gasket, then you need to flatten out the flanges. Adding gaskets will work for a while but really makes the problem worse. I use the orange high temp silicone with one gasket only, or in the case of my old Mustang, no gaskets! Never a leak.

Meep is correct. I wouldn't double the Remflex gaskets. If the header flange is so out of shape that it won't seal with a single thickness of these gaskets, then the headers need replacing. I have heard of header flanges being milled but the flanges would need to be pretty thick to prevent milling into the welds. I wouldn't recommend it as a permanent fix.

i ordered the remflex..we'll see how it goes. thx!

They will be the only ones you will ever buy. I swear by Remflex and the customer service is top notch.
