i have a 73 rr originaly a 318 car. i rebuilt an put in a bb kframe and put in a new 440 i built ever since i put in the headers hit the gear box and starter and hit the inner fender on drivers side ive seen cars like this w the 78038 headman headers w/0 and problems and lots of room what could be causing this this is gettiing frustrating even the starter gets so hot the strarter dont work its a mini strater do i have the wrong starter or headers or bent ones or do they make a starter that is closer to the block i know im ramiling but god this is making mt blood boil ive seen cars and pics on here where there are no issues like im having thanks again every one

well , the steering box is going to be close anyway. I put one little dent in mine just because I didn't like how close it was. im even using a full size starter and I have no issues at all. some pics of where they are hitting would really help. I am using the 78030 which I think are the same but uncoated

Hi there, maybe the mini starter is being over loaded with that high compression 440. Make sure you have good clean contact to the battery. Maybe if you raise the engine slightly, that would help header clearance.

if the headders are touching the body and a mini starter something is wrong with them for sure.common to need to do minor mods at the stearing box,but the other spots indicate a problem.

Well, this may not pertain directly to your problem, but then again it might. If you go on the Hedman site and look up your part number, you see those headers are listed to fit nearbout every MoPar made from 63-74. I don't care what that thing says. That is imdamnpossible. THe 65 and back B bodies had the k frame further forward by about 3 or so inches. There's no way in hell those headers can fit every chassis. When I see fitment footnotes like that, I run the other way.

i called head man there going to send out the updated headers that will work talked to guy and had a set on a 440 the old ones and the new ones hes made the changes in production to get them right for my year at least is what he said and i just need to email him and attach a copy on my recipt from summint racing

cool , post a pic of them when you get them. id like to see which ones I may have. I bought them brand new in the box from a member , but im not sure how long they've been sitting. they sure fit good though

78030 , they should be the same as yours but just painted , not coated

What kinda cobbledness is that you have for a steering shaft and u joints?

its made by flamming river the only way i could get it to work with the rubber isolator. they use on the 73s rr its what every one on here told me to do it works great its alot nicer that the big pice of rubber. why u so critical rebel? if u have a better way to work around the headers let me know? i couldnt even get the sterring close to the steering box was hitting the rubber isolator.

It just looked strange and outta place is all. I knew it wasn't the factory stuff. I would think two u joints in a row would try to wad up and not rotate freely........but if it works do it.

mine has the same rubber isolator. the headers work fine with the factory steering coupler and the steering shaft. you must have something funky going on with the way the engine is mounted in there. plenty of clearance on mine. I have a full size starter as well. I put one little dent in mine (circled in red) to get a little more clearance for the steering box, although it did clear, I just didn't like how close it was. that was the only dent I had to put in them. they fit like a glove. my dipstick tube fit perfect under the header tube and above the steering box. it was so much easier to just take the steering box out, the 3 bolts for it are easy to get to from the bottom of the car. this way I could out the starter on, drop the header in from the top , and then slip the box in there.
