Yeah I know. It was a 273 car. I had half a 340 sitting in the corner. Too many prodjects. I used parts I had, not a good idea. Motor is alittle much for the street. The hemi block is waiting quietly in the other corner.
I was told 70 and later A-body headers would fit from a man who posted a pic of his white 65 bel. on www.1962to1965mopar.ornocar.com. He put a 340 in his. I have a 65 satellite that I'm putting a 70 model 340 in. His as well as mine are hooker's. I'll post the part number this evening.
I don't know about the headman's. My research led me to believe that they were higher priced than the hooker's. The headers I purchased are non-coated high temp black headers that cost me $170 from Jegs (Jegs part #520-5901). The same headers are available in ceramic coating but cost more. The car on the 62-65 web site is the 7th selection down the list on the pictures for 1965 plymouths. I'll be putting my 340 on the stand this weekend to start building (fresh from machining) so I'm not to the point yet where I can say from experience, but the under hood pictures of Bob Rogers Belv. II are pretty convincing. Good luck!
I'm gonna be watching this thread like a hawk, as I've got issues finding headers for my '65 bel II that's getting a 360. I've tried three different styles of headers (one pair purchased, two borrowed) and none fit The first was a hedman "three tube under" type, and the steering link hit at the pitman arm. Not sure of the brand of the other two, but they were both "above the steering" type, and each had problems getting past the power steering box. Big time. I have a set of hooker super comp #5115's on my chall, I'm half-tempted to pull them off & see how (if) they fit the bel. Also considering dumping the power steering, if it makes the needed room. Somebody must have done this before- we can't be the first?
I have a set of spitfires on now, but not happy with them. I need to rehook up the exhaust to them. You would think Harold would have improved them by now. I want to replace them with a full header.
Well, the test fit of my hooker #5115 super comps was a bust. Pass side fit fine, although a bit tight to the shock tower (1/4" gap, don't know if there would be contact w/ engine twisting?). Driver side was another story. #1 tube hit on the top of the power steering box. I think a few bumps w/ a hammer & it would clear. A manual box might fix this (and I might run one anyway), but the biggest issue was where #7 tube didn't clear the center link/pitman arm. Probably 3/4-1" interferance, esp. as the pitman arm swings by. With my motor in the stock position (65 k-frame & schumacher mounts), steering seems to be the downfall of all these later model headers I've tried. I think I'm just gonna nut up and buy a set of TTI's and be done w/ it. They appear to be the only ones that actually fit.
