Hello from ireland.

Mopars in Ireland.
Wow.

There are a few mopar in ireland. Quite a few american cars actually. I am part of a group called American Muscle Cars Ireland. We are all about having fun, burning rubber, roaring v8's and drinking beer.

Plenty of them mate. A friend back home in Dublin owns a 1970 Chrysler 300 2-Door Hardtop, a 1971 Monaco 4-Door Hardtop, and a '59 Dodge wagon. He also dismantled a '72 Satellite 2-Door and a '71 Fury 2-Door Hardtop 12+ years back (both previously owned by Irish Expat's who brought their respective cars back from the US with them).

Here's some pix:

My old ex-American Embassy 1975 Fury - was brought into the country brand new in 1975, for use at the American Embassy in Dublin. These photos were taken when I first laid eyes on it in Cork in December 2005 (know the local American car club members down there). I dismantled it in 2008 (it was rotten), then swapped it as part trade for an Aussie '70s Chrysler Valiant wagon (I live in Australia now) when home at Christmas in 2013. Believe it or not the owners of the wagon were Irish-American banger racers (aka Demolition Derby drivers). The interesting thing about the wagon is that it too is an ex-Embassy car (Australian Embassy obviously lol). Long story short, the Fury ended up being destroyed on the track. They had to rebuild the entire car for the race it was that bad lol.

Am still searching for a replacement, as I kept the drivetrain, interior, glass, bumpers etc. Not easy to find a plain jane 1975/1976 Fury sedan sob.

Here's another interesting B-Body - the 1973 Dodge Charger that was used in the video for the song "Gravity Grave" by The Verve (1992).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=66Hu-tx1urg

The owner worked on the video for this song, and inherited the car in the UK following completion of the video. I believe it was brought back to Dublin, Ireland in 1995, I first saw it in 2002.

Anyway, seeing as I live overseas now it got away from me. By that I mean it was sold about 2 years ago to some lads who had a '71 Plymouth Roadrunner in Dublin with a very bad roof (they got the car in England). Basically, they cut the roof off the Charger and transplanted it onto the Roadrunner. This poor poor Export model Charger, although it had shite quarters panels, shite front fenders, and holes drilled in the door from the video shoot (to mount the cameras etc.), it had great floors and roof. It was a 6-cylinder car, but had power disk brakes and black buckets/console interior (I now have the front seats from it).

Now enter the Irish-American demolition derby drivers - unbelievably, they bought the car, and welded the Roadrunner's roof back onto it, in order to race it! Unreal I thought. So this poor thing ended its days too on the track. During that same visit home in December 2013, I managed to snap some pix, here it is in all its glory:

Now that's a nice little bit of history. All that knowledge from one persons experience. If you know of cars in ireland like that I wonder how many other people have stories like that also about cars in ireland. Myself and the guys always talk and wonder if there are many cars sitting around ireland waiting to be discovered.

Thanks. It's my pride and joy. Still had the original mod material on the roof and door panels. The seats were reupholstered without the mod inlay. It would be nice to get fresh mod material and redo all of it.

Mo chara, just ask Mark Malone about me, he will tell how obsessed I was. I used to travel around Eire pulling wrecks out of ditches, fields, you name it. Ha ha.

Some of the cars:

1974 Monte Carlo in Louth (1st Yank car) back in Dec. 2002 - rotten, broke it
1970 Cadillac DeVille convertible - rotten, broke it (still have the monster 472ci engine)
1976 Monte Carlo in Donegal - rotten, broke it
1973 Fury Gran Sedan in Monaghan (rot box, still have it)
1965 Chevelle Malibu SS convertible in Kerry (rot box, still have it)
1978 Firebird Trans Am (still in a shed, half chopped lol)
1980 Cadillac Sedan DeVille (used in part trade for the Aussie Chrysler Valiant wagon. Destroyed in banger/demolition derby race)

I also remember the Fury seller having a 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger (bad condition, but great glass and complete black interior). Florida car originally. Unfortunately he scrapped that a few years after I bought the Fury. I did buy the dog dish hubcaps from it though. I'll dig out a pic.

There are a few more that I have to chase up when back home next...

I remember when Mark imported that Mod Top mate, very nice car. Think he drove it to Santa Pod drag strip in the UK one year...

Found the pic of the 1970 Dodge Dart Swinger in County Monaghan, taken back in November 2004 (that's me with the stupid grin on my face. Hey, I was young ha ha...):

I have a few more snaps alright.

I don't think The Verve could have picked a more better car for that video than a 73 Charger.......................except a 69 Sat. (Tongue in cheeky)

Nigel, you look like one happy Irish man.

She is already on the register. A previous owner put it up there. Think its #41. There are no leads there for the fabric but I was talking with sms auto fabrics and they say they will make me a new top so as soon as I get the money I will pick one up.

I am definitely a happy chappy. I have always had an interest in american cars since I was a child. Growing up watching the old movies gave me a good taste for them but when I turned 18 I moved state side and really got up close and personal with them. After spending years stateside I finally returned back to the emerald Isle determined to have some muscle. I joined up with a club called American muscle cars ireland and the mighty mopar was one of the original cars in the club back then. I have known the car for years but never thought I would ever own it. I loved the car always and one day I heard it was for sale. I just so happened to have enough money stocked away to afford the car so myself and my lady bought it. We just had to get it to keep it in the club and keep it in the country. A lot of good cars in ireland sell to main land europe and are never heard of or seen again.
You hit the nail on the head saying I'm happy!! Pictures don't show how happy

Found a few more snaps there of the car and me expressing my happiness :headbang:
