Wow, cool! Welcome! Always good to have some U.K. folks here! Post up the VIN and Fender tag numbers, the tail lights and gas tank cap look 'odd' for that model and year, never heard of Mexican's building these cars back then, but, I could be wrong!

Wow....that does look different with the cap/tail, but still good never the less. Welcome to FBBO Mr. Deeds

Hey there, welcome to the site. What made you think your car was made in Mexico? Just curious. I haven't heard anything about this in my 30 yrs of MoParing.

I'd say someone put a Charger gas cap on your car but it looks like it belongs there.

hey guys thanks for a warm welcome :)

i put this up in technical earlier

ive looked all over the web to decode what i think is a 318 i bought my b body from a museum in the uk the owner just had her imported but never registered etc. the car was from mexico still has Mexican plates i believe it was assembled in mexico (has a small plate next to the battery reading something about negative battery terminal in Spanish?, the cars had a hard life in the wrong hands at some point due to half of the work done on it lol as you would notice the charger like fuel filler fitted in the photo....

anyhow to my main point ive been through all sorts of decoding mopar engine websites but still a little confused

so far what i have found:

-2bbl
-100% the engine is not original to the car
-it has 318 stamped under the drivers head
-date stamp 15.5.73 so 1973 engine
-727 transmission
-engine has a front sump with the drain plug at the front of the sump also were the drain plug is a square has been cut out of the front subframe to access the drain plug
-drivers side of the engine block near the date stamp under the head just above the starter all i found was this number C30618 if that makes sense to anyone
-passenger side of the engine nothing but a clock of what shift it was built on

another strange thing is the engine mounts have been cut and shaped to fit the engine and bolt to the car?? very bad job

i couldnt find a vin number all i found is a small plate riveted to the door shut of the drivers door under the top door hinge it reads

LA904604
LA9104604

i will get some photos up when i get in from work when i can to show what my issues are im sure someone will be more clued up then i am yet on mopars

as for the rear panel when i got the car it was seriously damaged in the middle all i could do was cut the centre out and have it tig welded with a flat sheet so it looked smooth instead :O i really do want another original replacement but cant find one at the moment

the charger fuel filler cap has definetley been cut out and fitted i will upload photos of the terrible job done on holding it up from inside:eek:

Welcome, great find and a great project. What are you guy paying for petrol there?

welcome aboard mate:headbang: you had me scratching my head for a minute looking at your car. the petro fill cap on the fender did it. not a bad looking start though,

95 octane would be a dream here in California! However, I believe your rating is based on the research method (RON) so that's probably closer to the 91 swill we have here. Please tell me you don't have ethanol blended in your gas!

Welcome to the site! Last time I was in the UK, I elected to drive the rental car. I have fond memories of tearing through roundabouts, tires squealing as I hit the door with my hand, forgetting the shifter was on my left side. Good times. That Coronet must be a blast to tear up the motorways with...
