Let's start off with I suck at wiring! Lol, never had much experience with oe wiring since my other car has a painless kit. About 2 months ago I took my car in for paint. Drove it down, from now and then, picked it up the other day it won't run! Getting gas, cranks fine just seeming like no spark. I have replaced the battery, coil, cap, rotor, ballast resistor, still no fire. It is equipped with petronix igniter II too. Another question is what's this black box to right of the ballast resistor? Part of the ignition system as well? Thanks all.

A couple of thoughts. 1st, the black box looks like a voltage regulator. Since your problem started after a recent paint job, I would look at a bad ground. I am not sure of your exact set up, but I had a problem with spark due to the ignition box not having a good chassis ground.

Good luck.

The black box is the voltage regulator, have you checked for spark? If not pull a plug and wire and ground the plug while having somebody crank the engine (Be careful to keep your hand away from the plug).

A great percentage of electrical problems are due to a poor connection somewhere.
In a similar situation:
Almost every time I have had the distributor out for an intake swap, engine rebuild, anything....The car seemed to lose spark and have a hard time starting. This was a real pisser when I was firing up an engine for the initial break-in!
I had a Mopar Performance electronic distributor that used to just randomly choose NOT to work. I would test and swap ECUs, ballast resistors and coils thinking they were to blame but it always came back to that distributor. I found that the reluctor star wheel had come loose, trying to fire when the rotor was in between terminals on the cap. I have since fixed the problem as well as replacing the engine harness. I have not had a "No Spark" problem in 4 years.

Voltage reg gotcha, I painted the engine bay before paint and it was running perfect before I took it down. I pulled a plug and didn't see any spark...

Where do you usually ground your plug to? My buddy was just touching it to the manifold stud.

So you replace that voltage reg and all was good?

When I have tested for spark, I take a spare spark pug, new or used and attach the #1 plug wire to it, then set it on the intake. I have never "grounded" it.

I have never "grounded" it.
Intake is acting as ground. Speaking of grounds, think in the pic I see it, but if so, wire is too small. Talking about the engine to firewall ground. Make sure it's connected...should be 10-12 gauge wire, I believe.

There's a cheap tool at some auto parts stores that has a plug wire terminal, and aligator clip for ground, and a screw adjustable gap.

Makes checking for spark super easy.

Do you have voltage at either side of the coil?

Is the coil firing? Can be checked same as dist/plug wire.

Do you have a spare Pertronics box you could try?

Just curious, do you have the headlight harness in it as well? There is a jumper wire on that harness that completes the circuit. It's the yellow wire.

Well all the culprit was...drum roll please.....the petronix ignitor! After changing out everything I did the trouble shoot on it and sure enough no juice. Picked up another and boom fire on the first turn. Thanks for all the help guys see you in the wind.

If you are using the Ignitor II, use their Flamethrower II coil with it. They are designed to be used as a set, plus you can bypass the ballast with this setup.
