Hey all my 1990 GMC 1500 pickup just failed it's E-test.
It wasn't all that bad only high on the Hydro carbons.I knew the distributor was on it's way out so I swapped it out for a known good one.
When I started the truck after the swap it ran like crap the exhaust stunk like the cat had gone bad and it kept stalling.I figured the distributor must have been the problem so I swapped the original back in.
Now the truck starts rite up but runs sluggish at first then revs up and then runs perfectly smooth has lot's of power and sounds fine but the check engine light keeps coming on and I don't have a scanner.
I set the timing by unhooking the brown and black wire and set it at o deg BTDC and then cleared the computer.I've checked and rechecked the timing and the wires there perfect.I haven't had time yet to look it over so any one that's got a good of where to start let me know.I'm thinking the distributor has nothing to do with the new problems my guess is I set some thing else off when I was in there mucking around lol....Here are my E-test results:

A plugged cat-converter was the culprit on our Malibu Sundance The Malibu didn't run as well as your describing though.

Hey Ron thank's for the reply,I should have added the Cat is good I just welded the exhaust on a few weeks ago and checked it out then.

I didn't have time to look the truck over until after work today but I had it in my head that the Map sensor was the cause.
I was getting ready to unhook it and install the new one I pulled off of a parts motor I have when I found that the vac line into the back of the throttle body was worn out at the elbow and leaking causing the Map sensor not to work properly. ...........New vac line equals a happy day in Sundance land :icon_colors:

Glad you got it sundance... Here is a link, I just got it a couple weeks ago and really haven't put it thru any real problem tests, busy lately, but its reasonable and i know how most feel about HF tools and its well founded. This however seems to so far be worth the $ for what it does and a mechanic when i asked if he heard of it said he has one that he actually likes better then the one hes been using for a long time that is more expensive, but does more. Time will tell!

Ha, so how come all us Mopar guy's have Chev's as our daily drivers??? lol

ALL of my cars are Mopars :D 95 Dakota is my 'yard cart', 2000 Durango is my wife's driver and I have a 97 2500 diesel for the tough jobs. The only old car I have left is my 66 Belvedere. Trimmed down the herd and also my stash of parts is getting smaller too.
