Help.. Correct kick down linkage rod for 1967 440

All,

thanks for your help in advance.!!

i am trying to figure out if my 1967 440 convertible (with RB 440) should have a 3 piece kick down linkage or the single rod. It has never kick down properly and with the single rod, i am having issue adjusting,... The rod is too short to throw the kickdown lever all the way back..

please advise and thanks!!!

That throttle bracket I posted from ebay is the right one .

I notice that the one spring on my car, securing the kickdown linkage is mounted completely differently than in the 66 diagram posted by Fran Blacker. It was mounted this way when I bought the car years ago and I just assumed it was right since the previous owner was a transmission mechanic. I need to check that out in my 67 manual as that could be contributing to some of my shift timing issues maybe.

Edit - 67 Service Manual shows the spring arrangement like I have on my GTX in the above pictures so I guess there was a change between 66 and 67.

Not sure these will help from my 67 because I've never been completely sure it's all correct - but seems to work after careful adjustment. It's 3 pieces down to the transmission.

I don't know if the service manual will tell you the correct length of the throttle pressure/kick down lever itself, but assume you have the right one...the one on the trans.
Main thing, via your book...no matter what carb you have, as long as the throttle arm is right, holding the throttle 'wide open', should move the trans lever to almost full pressure. Not enough to bind it, but a little free play. That's the MAIN setting your looking for.
Past that...just a matter if the linkage can handle the full swing of movement.

I'll check that too. Seems I verified everything years ago but my memory has faded.
