Hi all,

After all the cars I have been looking at and I still have a few leads, I keep going back to this 73 Road Runner. I think and I feel I have known about this car for about twenty years.

Can anyone decode it for me?

The guy looked under the hood and said he doesnt know if this is the fender tag or not, I know it is but I think he has a few codes written down wrong.

I know its an off white bucket seat car, but I'm not sure of the body color. the last twenty years that I've known about it, it has always been black.

So anyone that can help me please break down the codes. I'm thinking of buying it and seeing if my heart really wants to restore it or what with it.

If its the car I've looked at for a few years, had a sign do not ask its not for sale, do not knock on door will be shot on sight sign car I really want and yes I did know on the door to only be told NO ITS NOT FOR SALE CANT YOU READ!!!

I laughed when he said that and everyone thought I was crazy for knocking on the door. The car went missing about nine years ago or so and now it has popped back up. I dont know if its fate or what that it is for sale now and a different owner and at the price I would give for this car.

So thanks everyone for any help you can give me.

E44 (not "44") is 318 "36" is probably "G3G" which is 1973, 318, St Louis.

I think Y3 is JY3 Honey Gold, which is actually yellow, a bit more pale than Lemon Twist, but not a pale as Sunfire.

In one of the pics I did see under the black some yellow or what looked to be yellow. I know the color you are talking about now and I do like that color and with the interior it would look really good.

I do think it has a black stripe on it from what I've been able to decode in my books as well.

Thanks, and when I go look at the car I will write them down myself and come back with the news.

Wanted to ask one more thing, isnt this the same year and color of Daisy Dukes Road Runner? I know her seats were black but the body was optioned the same.

Hers was more yello iirc, or it was just the way the filming caught the color of the car. But, yup 73 rr

Thanks I thought it was a 73 I still cringe when I see it go over the cliff and when all those Chargers get jumped and crumbled man what would could fix today couldnt be back then.

I really got to look at this car in person and see how the panels are, does Tobaco make quarters for them as well? If not who does?

I do know it needs trunk pan and I think is the center part so who knows if I can find that.

Lemon Twist was still available in 73.

IIRC, FY1?

Both those yellows look killer with black stripes.

JY3 favors the butterscotch side IMO.

I think it's safe to assume the car is JY3.

Since there is no vinyl top code, we see the *Y3 above the J42 code. let's assume he got the Y3 part correct on the top and the J correct on the bottom (as we know *42 is not a valid paint code) giving us JY3; a vaild code for that year and appropriate with that interior.

How's this?

For the record, I see LOTS of VIN "G" characters listed as "6", even on titles.
YIKES!

I love the ebay listings for "original engine" cars with 6 as the fifth digit.

You see a lot of them listed with a "C" plant code also. Sometimes the tail of tail of the "G" doesn't show up very well.

Okay, now how rare is this color combo?

I have been looking at pics all day and trying to be well versed in the 73 Road Runner as I can be right now and everything I see is black interior with this color.

I have seen white with blue and black cars and even red. So tell me if this car sounds kind of odd or just another one (not that its a bad thing) but I like to know more if I do make an offer on it.

The owner will be home tomorrow and I'm to call after 6pm. I keep hearing the voices in my head say buy it and the other one says save for something else.....
