My satellite collapsed a lifter so I figured I would go ahead and order a cam, lifters, and timing set for it; but as I looked into it more the more it confuses me. I was always told it was a 318, but the 318 in 66 was the poly motor, and mine is an LA, so that led me to belive that it was swapped into a later motor, I looked at the casting date on the side of the block and it looked like 12/13/65, which made me belive that it was a 273, as the 318 la wasn't made until 68. Then I got even more confused because 273s only came with solid lifters, and my motor is a hydraulic lifter setup. I thought I could settle any confusion by just looking at the casting number on the drivers side that would definitively tell me what the motor was, and it read 318. Like I said before the casting number was in 65 which would have been a poly motor. Is there anyway somebody could have swapped la heads onto a poly block?? There is also no stampings or anything on the front of the block below the head gasket if that matters. The fender tag also said it originally came with a 318. That was probably so confusing to read but at this point I'm just at a loss as to what the motor could be and any help is appreciated greatly... I'm just trying to get it running again after all.
P.S. happy father's day!!
