I took the interior in my roadrunner out a while ago and realized that the previous owner probably blew up a trans. How often did that happen with a833s? The damage to the floor pan and firewall are noticeable.

I checked the transmission that's in there and it doesn't seem to match the car. If I looked up the date code and it appears to be a 1968 tranny, but I'm not sure how to figure out what car it came from. Any ideas?

Yeah...factory 383 4 speed post car. Numbering on body panels seem to support that.

I could be wrong. But it looks similar to this:

What looks similar to that? The only reason I asked about your car is there doesn't appear to be any blue paint on the hump like the rest of the floor.

It has a bit of blue, but its pretty rusty. Im not too sure though, I found out something new about this car every day it seems like. If it was modified, it would have been in the 70s. It had bias ply dunlops on it when I brought it home. At some point it has been cut to fit fender headers, so I know the guy raced it or ran it hard.

Clutch explosion without a scatter shield?

I figured. How often did clutches explode like that? Thanks for the responses! I hope to weld in new floors and a firewall soon. Is it possible to figure out what car the current trans is out of based on the vin?

I have two friends that have blown up clutches. One had a shield and the other didn't and the one that didn't ended up with a totaled car. The damage was extensive not to mention he had a few nicks on him with a large hole right next to his foot! It even took out his radio....

Your trans VIN is for a 68 built in the Lynch Road plant. Those last 6 numbers should match the last 6 on your VIN tag. If they do call yourself lucky and don't get rid of that tranny case!
