I would like to upgrade the ignition system on my 1967 GTX 440. I have done lots of reading and searches but am still unsure. I want to go all MSD, and keep in mind I will also be installing there Atomic EFI later this winter. I would like the Atomic to control timing when I get that far.
1. Which ignition would be best for my application the 6A or the 6AL or other?

2.Which distributor?

3.Which coil?

i run 6al, blaster 2 coil and 8546 no vac advance distributor on my 505 stroker

6al digital, blaster 3, msd pro billet dizzy, 1 blue and 1 silver spring. msd wires to finish it off. I love my set up.

i am running 6al2 programmable. It allows you to set limits and change with the software provided.. It also allows you to adjust curves, I haven't done much with that yet because I'm messing with carbs, but I also run the pro billet dist. No vacuum advance and blaster coil. Made a huge difference!!

I'll try to load a pic later today!

I was leaning towards a dizzy with vac advance. It looks like you guys are not running vac advance, wondering why? Anyone have experience with the Atomic efi? I believe you can simulate vac advance with it, is that the case? Pics would be great!

I didn't even think about vacuum advance cause the pro billet is mechanical so I just went mechanical.

I used an 8546 pro billet diz and 6al box (I have an older box with old style connection - no longer sold I think) and 8202 blaster coil. MSD website shows all you need.

I had my atomic running with the dizzy using mechanical advance ( one silver n one blue spring) for a while and got the atomic running. Then I eventually used the MSD 84211 dizy lock out cap and removed springs when I had the atomic take over timing

Msd programmable 6AL-2 p/n 6530, msd coil p/n 8222 (epoxy filled), msd distributor p/n 8546 and Firecore FireCore50 Ignition Wires 8.5mm (didn't care for the msd wires how they attach to the plugs).

Thanks guys!! I will be back for more info I'm sure!!

Thanks to the input from members here my new ignition is installed and works great! One funny thing happened (funny now). I went for a test drive everything was going great, I was feeling pretty good about the project when all of the sudden I smell plastic burning. I pulled over and smoke was coming out around the hood and I thought for sure the new ignition was melting!! Turns out I had left a screw driver under the hood and it came to rest on the headers. Made a mess on the header, but better than the new ignition going up in smoke!

Buy a distributor that has a trigger for connection to the Atomic for advance curves. I think accel is the only unit available with timing signal ability.

Advanced curves?? From what I understand the Atomic will control timing with the MSD distributor.
