My wife wants to plan a trip to San Diego to see the zoo, sea life, leggo land, etc. We are wondering what the best time of year is weather-wise.

I'll start. January 1st through December 31st.

Search for the major car show events first. Del Mar Good Guy Nationals in the Fall and Spring, ect. Then schedule around those.

Don't worry about the weather. Your biggest decision on what to wear will be flip flops or sandals, lol.

yeah San Diego weather is nice almost the whole year, a little humid & muggy thou... Dec. & Jan. will be the coolest, July & August the hottest... fall & spring is always nice

yeah or what swimsuit or what silk shirt or what pair Burmuda shorts... allot like Hawaii weather, but on the Mainland

If you want to hang out at the beach and go in the water, July through the end of September would be the warmest air and water temps. For everything else, any time of the year is nice. A few months of possible drizzle in the morning in the "winter" months of January through March maybe but that's usually at night or morning and burns off by lunch.

If you are not going in the water at the beach and just doing the walking around all day stuff at the zoo and Legoland, I'd do that in the winter months with cooler temps and less sun beating down on you.

This guy is coming out from Wisconsin. Every minute of every day will be good weather by comparison.

Okay, so we've decided to travel out there in June. My wife is looking at the Dana Mission Bay Hotel. Anybody familiar with it? Any recommendations for a nice place to stay that isn't too pricey but close to the ocean and attractions?

thanks for the warning...LOL... good to have some sort of update on your trip... have fun, I travel in an RV mostly, not a big hotel guy... someone will have a good hotel/motel recommendation... find a good Indian Casino maybe sorry no recommendations, cheaper the farther inland, away from touristy prices, but far less of the Cali ocean/beach experiences too... find a place to rent scooters, is always fun too... we use to go down to IIRC El Centro area in the winter when I was a kid, we would go somewhere east of Poway to ride, buggy's, motorcycles & 3 wheelers etc... my ol'Pops long time friend use to live down there, in the Poway & Oceanside areas....

Any hotel around mission bay will put you right in the middle of everything, Sea World, the zoo, Lego Land, ect. I think your best best at finding accomodations that are in your price range would be to check out orbitz.com or any of the other travel websites. Its a big city so you can find anything from $60 bucks a night at Motel 6 all the way up to 5 star resort hotels right on the beach that will put a serious dent in your pocketbook. If you go to the zoo you might as well check out Balboa park too. Its right next to the Zoo and they have some nice stuff to see, the auto museum there is good and the aerospace museum is a must see.

To trully experience SoCal living just hang out in the downtown area at any of the smaller beach cities in the evening. Oceanside, Carlsbad, Encinitas, Del Mar, Solana Beach. You get the small town atmosphere with plenty of nice little stores for shopping and great spots to have dinner and a cold one.
