I am looking to get a correct date coded block for my '68 GTX. A guy has one listed not too far away but something doesn't look right with the numbers stamped on the pad.

My eyes aren't what the used to be so can someone tell me what this mess means?
Thanks in advance for your help.

P440 I think is 1960
RB is well you know RB
3.750 Maybe stroke?
383 Maybe a 383 crank?'
HP 2 Bigger exhaust valves?

Looks like it might be a B? Which would be 66 440. Not correct for a 68 GTX.

You will want to look for a block that has D440 on the pad and then the casting date on the side of the block to be before the scheduled build date of the car.

HP - High Performance

2 - Second Shift

Now I am totally confused.
Here's the casting date:

Here's the VIN which I believe decodes to a '69 charger:

This all makes believe someone may have altered the numbers on the pad.
This is a picture of my '68 Coronet R/T pad and that is what I was expecting to see on this block:

I have not seen the 3.75 or the 383 stamped on any 440 block before. And the date code whether it be a B or a P makes no sense when the block is late 68 casting date. So I would say the pad has been monkeyed with.

Looks like some double hits with some of the numbers too. Wish the pics were a little clearer.

Thanks guys.
I think I'll pass on this one since I already have a 69 motor that came with the car.
Here's the pics of those numbers. The serial number isn't normal so maybe it was a replacement block?
Pad looks normal:

The casting date looks right:

The serial number doesn't seem complete:

Either way if you're after a correct block for a '68, that's not your guy. The one you show has a VIN stamping on the pan rail which they didn't do until '69. (You also verified it's a 69 block by the Charger VIN there)..pads have been re-stamped frequently over the years unfortunately. It's easy to do....

Yes sir, you are right about it not being the one I want.
I'll keep an eye out and if I find one I'll sell the '69 block I have now.
