Can anyone help me to decode this? Was this a stripe delete car?

Yes 9 in the S category is stripe delete. Looks like it was an ordered car for Canada with rear seat speaker, rear window defogger, tinted glass, 26" rad, standard charger trim and mouldings, 3.23 axle, black interior, racing green, black upper door color, stripe delete with a 440HP engine and automatic transmission. Car has a scheduled production date of May 8th 1968 with redline tires on it. The radio code under the R is a 2, which I do not have info on on my option list sheet I have. Not sure why the SO number starts with an A? Maybe a Canada specific thing? Chargers were only made in Hamtramck and St Louis in 68, so not sure what the A is for. (can't be a plant thing for Lynch Rd.)

Yes...that was the other thing that I can not figure out...does anyone know why the order number starts with an "A". Decoding the VIN it is a Hamtramck car. Anyone?

Best of my recollection is R2 is AM/FM. R/T ordered with 3:23 open rear end? Also A1 = 26" radiator.

That is what have for radio options.

Apparently the 3.23 was standard issue on the auto. 4 speed had the Dana. See the chart below.

I understand that 3:23 was standard, but it was an ordered car and who would not at least add sure grip. Just my thoughts.

Ohhhhh yea yea I got you. Yea doesn't make sense to add all that to it then check the ol' 3.23 one wheel peel. Agree with ya there.

I have a question for all the numbers people out there. 67 and 68 fender tags were very similar, and I have a bunch of 67 stuff. Where on this tag does it indicate a 68 car and not a 67?

Hmmmmmm good question. Only thing I see on this 67 tag in the pic is the SO number is only 5 digits. 68 started with 100001, but this car was an early build. Once they hit the 100000th car, I'd think they were the same. Tire code also looks like 3 numbers in the 67 tags vs 2 numbers on a 68 tag. I am reading that the third tire numeral 5 means there are 5 tires the same meaning it got a spare. Others can comment on this if its wrong/off. Seems the 66-68 stuff is more mystery than the 69 and up stuff.

I'm glad everyone has their own thing. I have to look everything up on 69 up cars. Everything I have stated in this thread is from memory and may not be 100% accurate but I get by most of the time without looking to stupid.

^^ Agree 100%! I am no expert by any means. I just file it all in my head and have a few forms I keep up to date on so I have some useful info to look back on when I need it. The more I can help others not have to struggle like I did, the better I feel.

The A indicates the car was built for sale in Canada (for 69 it’s B and 70 it’s C)
