Help with 63 Polara 500

If it is holding and engaging parking brake that's good but sounds like it needs to be adjusted so lever can get full travel and lock to right so doesn't pop out and cause your car to roll off.

Adjusting is not hard but you need two people. First someone needs to go under car and loosen adjustment nut on parking cable so cable will pull in and out slightly. Once cable can move the other person needs to engage the parking brake lever fully to right and hold there. Once this is done, person underneath is to pull park cable out slightly till stops, Then tighten lock nut back down. This adjusts the free play in cable and parking lever.

Had to do the same thing on my 64.

Love your car!....The spring that hold the level in park on my 63 broke about 7 years ago but I have not had any issues with it. (more issues with the buttons fully engaging neutral all the way every time.) When I park the car I put in neutral and then use the parking break lever - then put on the parking brake on the floor. My wife's grandmother owned the car and that is how she did.

If you have trouble starting the car put it in drive and then neutral to start. Coming from revers to neutral doe not always set neutral when the transmission cables grommets start going.

I had a 63 just like that one, only mine was black where yours is blue. Mine had avery rare 383 with 2 4 bbl carbs, rated at 343 hp.

Welcome from Michigan. Very cool car. Love the interior.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to this board, I've been on the "A-Bodies" board before, so I'm guessing similar.

Anyway, I've got 2 '63 Polara 500's that I need a little bit of help with fender tag info. I've got some info but have some blanks and was hoping someone on here knows their way around a 63 fender tag.

Got one like it

Nice car, I have one just like it only white with black trim and white and black interior. Mine has a 440 with dual edelbrocks ,727 trans, 3:55 equaloc and runs great. I do believe these came from the factory with 413s if ordered, also believe 426 max wedges were available late 1963.

Love that 63. Brings back a lot of fond memories of mine. I too had the black accent instead of the blue. Mine was a 383 2bl. You are really fortunate to have one that sweet. The 413 engines had the long ram manifolds if I remember correctly, and the 426 engine had the staggered 2 4 intake, also called a crossram. If memory serves me correctly, the 426 was called a Stage II. I could be wrong. Usually am, at least according to my wife.:argue:

Can anyone decode a fender tag for a 63 Polara 500? VIN is 6432173780. Pic of the tag is attached.

On a 63 Hamtramck built car, an optional engine would be coded under the "Q". If there is no engine code, it means the car came with the standard engine.

The 383-2bbl was standard in a 63 Polara 500 with the 383-4 and 426-MW optional. So there has been an engine swap.

6432173780

This vehicle is a 1963 Dodge Polara 500 8 Cylinder
and was the 73,780th car scheduled for production at the
Hamtramck, MI assembly plant.

It was the 73,780th VIN assigned.
The VIN is an administrative function. It has nothing to do with production. This car could have been the 73,500th or the 74,500th car scheduled for production.
