New to the Site., need help with the decode of a fender tag for a 1970 Roadrunner.

Going to look at it this weekend. Has a 383 .40 over with a 509 lift 292/299 purple cam. Couple things.

Please help decode the Fender Tag (photo attached)

Guy said the dome lights stay on he is replacing the light switch to see if that fixes it. Any thoughts.

He also said to go easy on the motor since it has been sitting with very limited use the last couple of years. Said you need to break it in like it was new ? (rebuilt in 04' limited use) make sure it heated up.

What do you guys think?

Thanks alot!

Unfortuntaly the Lynch Road tags are the ones the give the least info. From the picuture, this is what I can tell you:

E63 - 383 335HP
D13 - 3-speed manual (this was the standard tranny on the '70 RR)
RM21 - 2-door post Road Runner
N - 383
0 - 1970 model
A - build at Lynch Road
146979 - unit built (the 46979th car)
DY3 - medium gold (the other DY3 means the roof color, i.e. no vinyl top)
P6XA - bucket seats, black with silver trim
TX9 - lower door paint inside (to match the interior color)
A17 - build date, Oct. 17, 1969
022765 - sequence number
L31 - hood turn signals (so it likely came with the A01 light package)

The lack of a "26" means it had a standard 22" radiator. The 087, 056 and 690 are related to the drivetrain (I think the 690 is for the tranny, I forgot the rest).

Hope that helps.

As for the dome light staying on... probably the dimmer is coming apart and making contact all the time. Need to fix/replace that.

The issue with the motor seems more questionable. Does he have receipts for the engine work? Why limited use after the build? Was the cam properly broken in? Have the fluids been changed recently? Make sure he starts it cold, and check for smoke, noises, etc.

Good luck!

Unfortuntaly the Lynch Road tags are the ones the give the least info. From the picuture, this is what I can tell you:

E63 - 383 335HP
146979 - unit built (the 46979th car)technically, it's the 46,979 VIN assigned. The VIN doesn't relate to production
A17 - build date, Oct. 17, 1969Scheduled production date. May or may not be the actual build date

The 087, 056 and 690 are related to the drivetrain (I think the 690 is for the tranny, I forgot the rest).

087 = engine assembly = 70 B body 383-4bbl HP for manual transmission and heater. 335 HP; orange

056 = axle assembly number = B body, 8.75 rear end with 3.23 gears and Sure Grip, 11" drum brakes

690 = transmission assembly = A230 3-speed for BCE bodies behind a 383.

The top line is the gate, base and sequence number which relate to the assembly of the body in white.
