hello all. I am trying to swap a 318 out and put in a 383 to my 66 coronet. The 383 came from 66 fury. I am wondering why my oil pan is hitting on k frame. Do i need a different oil pan. Do i need a center sump one? When i put in summit the car and engine details it does not show center sump oil pan. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Oh and the one i have is a stock rear sump.

The only rear sump I've ever seen was for a truck. The cars had center sumps unless I'm missin sumffin.

Never messed around with a 66 Fury but I would think the pan should go into the B body. Can you post a pic of what you have now? There's several of us from the Houston area and I even have a couple of pans laying around that I don't need....I'm in Pasadena but know several on your side of town that probably will have what you need.

OK...This is real easy. First...I have done the exact same swap you are intending however my ride is a 66 Ply Sat. It originally came with a 318 and I know have a 383 from a 1965 Dodge Monoco. The K-Frame is the exact same K-Frame and will accept the 383 without any modifications. The Motor Mounts you need are for a 383, 400, 413. The will bolt up nicely and the swap will be no sweat. You will need though a different transmission for the Big Block. 727's are the same for both the Small Block and the Big Block internally but the housings are different. A Small Block bell housing has a mounting bolt hole in the top center of the Bell Housing and the Big Block does not. For the Oil Pan you will need a Center Sump 402 Oil Pan and Oil Pick-up to swap out with the C Body Oil Pan/pick-up. It will not work as the center link is in the way of the C Body ones. The 402's are available but are pricy. Milodon has the exact same type Oil Pan which you can use if you like. The swap of the drive train worked really well in my ride and is an easy swap provided you have the right geometry in parts to go from a small block to a big block. Bottom line is you don't need to do a lot of swapping in regards to the K_Members which helps immensely. If ya need any thing else fell free to PM me as like I said I just went through this swap myself....Good Luck....cr8crshr/Tuck

Thanks again to all. I appreciate the support and approval you embellish me with after having experienced the same things as being asked. Funny thing is...Before I joined up over here I had to rely upon the other sites wisdom that most times was more of a criticism than one of support and help. So most of the knowledge I have gained is by experiencing the trials and tribulations associated with this Hobby. That along with countless reading and obtaining written and printed material coupled with failures and set backs allows me to share with any and all that is experiencing a similiar problem. After all...Isn't that what this is all about...Helping each other out...cr8crshr/Tuck

Thanks a lot guys. So it looks like all i need to do is get a new oil pan and i should be good to go, becuase I have the original tranny already that came with the 383. I didnt thnk they would have different oil pans between the different body types. Thanks again!

And do not forget to replace the oil pick-up with one for a cnter sump. I have one if you are interested...
