HEMI BOYZ NEED HELP....won't start.....

I took the dependable Demon off my stock 426 66 Hemi Satellite - put on rebuilt correct carters, original 2 4's instake, one rebuilt by Dick Katter, one by Larry Sheperd -
it won't start, even on hot days, even pumping pedal - choke open or closed - I already replaced the fuel pump - (although not with electric one)
would like to keep it stock - IT WILL start and run fine with a shot of ether,
but I have already been scolded about using starter fluid, BUT it does start right up with it - I do not think the spark is a problem - any ideas greatly
appreciated - only saw one 66 Hemi Satellite at Carlisle last week, where
are you guys.........

I would think It not the spark. It losing it's prime and needs a boost to get going. My old holley was the same way. Pull the air cleaner and hand pull the throttle and see if fuel is spraying.

But that was after it sat and not started for awhile

Instead of using starting fluid, just put a little gas down the carb. Worst case is it will be rich at first

Disconnect from the carb inlet and put the fuel line into an open can and crank see if your getting raw gas. If not plugged up pick up, vapor lock or fuel pump diaphram is bad or did you remember to put fuel push rod back in??

I agree. If it is loosing it's prime their is a fuel supply problem.

ok - I will try your ideas today and report back - 66's did not have a vapor
separator - could that be it? I have the clear fuel filters and they only fill up
about 1/2 - is that normal? I will switch to adding shot of gas to start it -
very simple good suggestion..........

fuel issues

are your fuel lines making a loop higher than carbs where a vapor lock can happen? Are you using a vented cap on the gas tank? Is there any kinks in the lines under the car?

more solutions needed........

ok - opened gas cap, has original body color screw on cap - its vented, did not hear any whoosh sound, looked inside carb and worked accelerator linkage, NO FUEL going in, disconnced line to rear carb, and cranked, no fuel
moving, lines are not bent or crimped, B4 you suggest gas tank screen, it DOES run with gas shot directly into carb -
1. Could it be brand new Chinese Carter fuel pump?
2. I heard about the push rod wearing down, but it does run.......
any other ideas?

fuel pump pressure........

just disconnected fuel line at "T" fitting for duel carbs - which is B4 the filters
and I did get fuel into can - so I am guesing its fuel pump pressure problem...

worn pump rod can still pump but it pumps weaker, think of a hand pumped water well if you were doing slow short pumps it wouldnt work, fast short pumps it will work just not as well as fast full pumps, if you can picture what im saying. hence turning over slow short pumps no pressure, engine running fast short pumps fuel flowing just not at full pressure.

Spec is 3.242" for the BB. Hemi the same?

ok now we need fuel pressure check should be 6.75 lbs and check float operation to see if fuel res is actually working
