I consider this camshaft for my Nostalgia SS/B day one recreation Barracuda.
Anyone have any experience or thoughts.
Like said application is B (4-speed) 12,5, Cross Ram (stock), Holley Carbs, 2 1/8" headers, 4:88 and 10,5X29" slicks. Around 3000lbs car.
Camshaft is one of the Purple Series Cams.
What do you say? Shift point etc...

How big is the motor and what kind of heads? Also, what does the heads flow? There are a lot of questions that you'll need to have the answers to.

We are running Crane Roller - 320-324-12R 785/760 with stock rockers. Stay away from Mopar Performance.

You would be better off calling Crane, Isky, Crower, Bullett etc etc. see what they say (Personally, I wont have anything to do with Comp Cams... but that's me)

IF it were me.... I would build it big and only build it once. It doesn't cost any more.

Places focus on - valve train, valve train, and valve train.... Buy a good set of roller rockers. top of the line are Barton / TD - or Stage-V (which is what we are running). I would never go back to Stock Iron rockers again.

Manton hollow adjusters..... will save you a lot of money in burnt push rods.

We run Manton Push Rods also, talk to them and they can give you a suggestion on what diameter to run. (we are running 7/16 .120 wall.

Get a good set of roller lifters. ( again... I personally would stay away from Comp). Isky, Crower, Crane... or any manufactured by Morel Lifters....(Lunati, and Howards I know of)

Yes thank you. I understand what you are saying, and I´m sure these are all good advice and info.
What I was trying to explain with the expression "day one" is as per NHRA rule book chassis/body and motor except camshaft is unmodified. This is a piece of history I´m building.
The Barracuda and Darts ran like this in the first couple of years. In 1970 Pro Stock was introduced, and modifications soon started to spill over to the Super Stock class. (now SS/A)
I´m sure you know all of this, but just want to make it clear.
My car will see only Nostalgia Racing and Exhibition Runs a few times a year.
My concern is the camshaft. I have a Roller Crane 290 and roller lifters as well. but this is to big for this unmodified engine and suspension, apart from more likely what was used a few years later. On the other hand it would be embarrassing to shift gear in a ´68 Fastback with SS scoop, decals and slicks, south of 6000 rpm.
In 1968 cars were capable of running in the ten´s and this is my goal.
Than you.

IMO, you’re totally overthinking it.

It’s not really a race car, so don’t get caught in what it’ll run with this cam or that cam.

Put something in there that’s easy on parts and sounds mean.
The difference in ET will be very minor.

Well to me it is important. Like I say this is going to be a piece of history, and I want it to harmonies. For this particular figuration a .600 lift something camshaft is correct.
My question was if someone has any experience of this particular camshaft (since I already have it) or have any thoughts (useful) around it...

From the bible, 10.90's with 5.12 gear. View attachment 667938
I really like the Purple Stripe "old school" cam that (I and others suspect) is in my 440+6bbl 70 Roadrunner. If we are right, it is the largest hydraulic flat tappet Purple Stripe cam Mopar offered. 292° .509 and MAN does it sound SWEET!
Just sayin' Not suggesting it's right for a Hemi, but in my car, IMO, it checks the boxes and runs great.
This is idling around 950 RPMs
