So I was in the garage with my new Hemi tribute 66 Coronet, going to change the oil.
I pulled the dipstick to check, things looked OK. Tried to re-insert, IT WILL NOT GO IN.
Spent 10-12 minutes attempting to manipulate it, without trying to force it to hard. I think there is a slot in the gasket/pan for the rectangular dipstick to enter the pan through. But I don't want to damage anything by forcing anything.

What to do??

Might have to shape the end to more of a point. What changed or was it the first time you pulled the dip stick. They can catch on the lip of the pan.

Decide which way you want to position handle then bend tip so it away from pan.

I found that not all hemi aftermarket dip stick tubes are not the same.

I had the same problem and bought one from a Mancini's that was bent correctly at the bottom.....

The swedged input shaft was not correctly made........ and would not fit the block.

The top bolt dipstick bracket must be correct... I ended up buying one from Mancini's that fit correctly also.

Thanks folks! I will try the bent and pointed tip suggestion and check out Mancini's. Excellent advice as usual from this forum!

In the short term, if you do end up buying a new dipstick and it is a postage item you have to wait for, just snip the end off the dipstick so you can still drive the car.
